And they've still not finished yet. For anything other than economy (ie premium economy or higher), APD is currently £110 and this rises to £170 in November for UK - Australia.

Many Australian tourists visiting the UK also intend visiting the continent as well. It may now make more sense to fly into Frankfurt, Rome or Paris and use that as a base. It will mean less time spent in the UK and a loss for the UK economy.

Hi guys,

First of all thx for this fantastic thread, the time has come to fly business class first time in my life
I'll be flighting one-way only (goodbye Australia...for good), so the value is not that great, but it still looks ok (should come to around $1800-2000 with taxes, am I correct?) compared to regular fares rip off...economy is between $1000-1500!
Anyone found ana website impossible to use due thier new policy I suggest this threat:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/bmi-d...er-search.html
I used method no 2, works like a wonder with 0 point/miles on the account

Good luck with your business travels and thx again ;-)

Martin

I think you can book one-way, it just costs the same as return.

Europe, that was for business - 120k miles is around ~1759 AUD today by xe.com + taxes, shouldn't be more than $2000 for one-way trip...

120k miles is about USD1770 minimum, assuming the current promo allows bonus on both buy & gift which I'm not sure it does.

At todays ex rates that will hit your credit card for about AUD1900..and your credit card company will takes it's fee on top as well, unless you have a USD credit card.

If you can't buy & gift the cost of the points will be AUD2200 ish.

I see no reason why I shouldn't be allowed to give some miles... until I buy them from 2 accounts, both subject to offer and then just give it away...
I counted 120k*2.75c/2 = 1650 USD, do I miss smth?

Tax at 7.5%.

The T&Cs for this offer state:

The maximum number of Buy and/or Gift Bonus miles that can be received by one member for this offer is 50,000 bonus miles.

I'm not sure, but I think this is different from before.

If you do it in 2 accounts, you have to pay to give the miles away to someone else - USD230 for 20k miles.

Why are return UK/Australia flights much cheaper starting in the UK than they are from Australia?

Has anyone since this latest promotion tried to buy/gift to one person more than 50,000miles? I have signed up myself and my mum and the plan was for her to buy 50,000 and for me to gift her 10,000 which with the bonuses would give her the 120,000 required for a business ticket MEL-Europe. But is seems this may not be possible This promotion seems to be happening at a fairly regular frequency at the moment - is there a maximum number of miles you can buy per year? if not, we could get the 50,000 this time and buy the rest next time and hope the Aussie dollar doesn't tank in the mean time!

Thanks,
mel.b

You can only benefit from 50,000 bonus points per account in the promotion period. eg. You buy 50,000 and get 50,000 bonus points. If you are then gifted more then you receive no bonus points for those gifted miles.

Equally if you buy more than 50,000 then any extra does not attract the bonus.

There is no limit per year as to the amount of miles that can be bought. I've personally bought 150000 without counting bonuses.
