Bundymum update?
What's latest, Bundster?

Re: Bundymum update?
Originally posted by Pollster What's latest, Bundster? Ooooo, telepathy again! I was just about to post something... BundyMum is doing really well. Still waiting for her radiotherapy date, but has been told that she is at the end of the list because she is non-urgent, which is sort of cheering. She is still having monthly teflon-coating bone infusions. The pain has almost completely gone - just the odd twinge now and then. She is able to get up and function pretty much as normal now, no more lounging around in bed:D She's desperate to go back to work, and probably will in the next couple of weeks, on a reduced hours basis to start with. The best news is that she is now able to drive again, which is a real symbol of her progress and an enormous relief to all (most of all my mum!). She takes herself off to the hospice for her acupuncture - she is now the world's biggest convert - and reflexology. Meanwhile my dad continues with his therapy sessions which are having a real effect and he is well on the way to getting his dream job with the museum. So, all in all, everyone is doing well. Except me - I was whacked with delayed shock and all that and sort of ended up in a rather miserable, tearful state for several weeks while I worked it all through in my own head after weeks of sorting everyone else out. Bit pathetic really, but I knew it had to happen sometime. I'm also struggling not to expect every bit of news to be bad. BundyMum has her next breast care clinic next week, so we'll see how she gets on there. She feels great though and is looking pretty good too, or so I'm informed. I've not been back out to Jersey since I came back and won't until she has her radiotherapy. Big scare, slowly getting over it and we're all learning this whole living with cancer thing. But things are a million times better than they were... |

Good to hear that your mum is doing so well and that she is so positive... don't be too hard on yourself - the shock was bound to hit you at some point, funny that it can hit your body (making you tired) even though you can be so strong mentally.
Take care and hugs to Bundymum Larissa |
ah.....im pleased to hear she's getting better....I was wondering myself but as i dont know you too well didnt feel i could just come out and ask!!!
The stress of the last couple of months will have taken a huge physical toll on you, and is akin to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder........its an awful physical illness that takes some getting over.......you MUST give yourself priority for a bit and do some de-stressing!! Which, being a daughter, i know is extremely hard to do!! Thats the only problem with being the eternally strong one of the family.....they all look to you for reassurance, but forget that you then carry the weight of their troubles, as well as your own!! Makes you realise how precious life is........ keep smiling sue xx |

I wish I could do some chilling. Sadly, my boss (yes, AW, Anya) is now of the belief that it is all over and done with, panic over etc etc, and therefore 100% unsympathetic to my moments of misery. I think I should probably have signed myself off for a weeks leave or something, just to get my head together, but this wasn't allowed as I had so much to catch up with on my return to work. So I've been having to deal with things in the evenings and weekends and not bring it to work:rolleyes:
I did talk to my GP about it when I was in for hayfever drugs and she said she would sign me off work if I felt I needed it. I don't really, I just need a bit of space and a bit of well, sympathy, I suppose. To be blunt, in my boss's view, my mum didn't die, therefore I deserve no special treatment. |
Re: Bundymum update?
if its any consolation I am doing the Race For Life next sunday, Southsea common..............all money raised is for Breast cancer.
|
Big hug for your mum - and an even bigger one for you Bundy, sounds like you need it!:)
Perhaps we should have a "Hug an almost-Australian Day"?!! |

Originally posted by sjn2003 Good to hear BundyMum is getting back to her old self, it was sounding all a bit scary for a while back then:) Sounds like that MrBundy of yours should be providing some TLC.... or you could always try wrestling the washing machine for some therapy value ! Mr B has a hard time dealing with it all - he lost his mum when he was 10 and there are lots of unresolved issues there. Basically, he has trouble coping with illness and death (his life has been a litany of family deaths, poor boy) and that makes it hard for him to look after me, because it brings back painful memories for him. But we get there, and he does his very best. Washing machine, touch wood, is on its best behaviour at the moment. Still got to fix the microwave and video though:D |
Good luck to everyone doing the race for life!!
I did it shortly after my cancer treatment finished in Leeds and was amazed at how many people were there. I think there was something like 3,000 ladies doing it just at Roundhay Park alone. So pleased to hear bundymum is doing well, big hugs from the Williams gang!! And Bundy, think about taking some "you" time off work....my hubby really needed it once the treatment was over and he had time to digest everything that had happened. As for me, I needed to get some distance between me and "it", I've only just started dealing with my emotions from then, it was too raw and too shocking to deal with any earlier. You will all come through it, just give yourselves plenty of time. love sophia xxx |
Re: Bundymum update?
Great news Bundy
i'm really pleased that things are slowly but surely getting better for you all, take care and remember that its ok to take some time out for yourself now and again with love rach, mark and chanelle xxxx |
Great news Bundy.
Can I slap your boss for you ? Sounds like a right cow. Bet you can't wait for the day when you tell her you are going. Best wishes Jill |
Hi Bundy ,
Glad youre mum is doing much better !!:) Now take some time for yourself and relax !!!!!!!!!  |
Hiya Bundy,

Best wishes Jill It never fails to amaze me that some people are so insensitive. Your comment about your boss i.e "mum didn't die, therefore I deserve no special treatment"...this really touched a nerve. I'm not normally an emotional person but it doesn't take a genius to work out how broken you must have felt / must be feeling:( Me thinks you deserve a break...you need to be selfish girlfriend......perhaps get that sick note from the Doctor and take some rest [I don't normally advocate time off but there are times it's needed...you must be emotionally drained]. Fingers crossed mum goes from strength to strength, dad gets job in museum and Bundy gets visa ..........and is able to drink loadsa bundy...........happy ever after;) Loadsa best wishes to you, your mum and dad.....and not forgetting Larissa and others in similar position Phoenixuk2oz |
Well done Bundymum and Bundydad for doing so well with it all.
Sounds like your Mum is giving that cancer what for - that's what we like to see! And TAKE A HOLIDAY Bundster - even a nice long weekend somewhere lovely and away from it all will help - or do something daft and crazy like go to Alton Towers for a couple of days - be a carefree kid again for a bit - it sounds like you need to shrug everything off your shoulders for a bit and have a bit of fun. You could always come and see me for a couple of days! Oh, can I join the slapping Bundy's Boss party please? (beats Tupperware any day ;)) |
Glad to hear things are going well for your Mum Bundy. Not surprised its hitting you now as it sounded like you were being the family rock through the bad bits, it has to come out eventually.
Also sending a big sharp cyber slap to AW :D |
All this talk of BundyMum must have talked it up - finally got her radiotherapy appointment yesterday! So I will be taking time off work, but only to go back to Jersey to house-and-cat-sit while my mum is in Southampton, and help her when she goes home. End of May - 3 months after her diagnosis.
I like the boss-slapping idea. Sadly, I need my job for another year, so better not do it quite yet! |
Can't believe how together you are after such a stressful time. Make sure you get some time for yourself- even if it's just a glass of wine (or bundy!) in a bubbly bath with lots of candles and a box of Ferrero Rocher! (works for me every time:))
Hope your mum's radiotherapy goes well and you can all put this horrible time behind you. Speak to you soon Yvonne xxx P.S. As for your boss, I'm a great believer in what goes around comes around.... |

hi bundy
have only just come across this thread, therefore wasn't aware when we met on sunday. sorry to hear about your mum but glad to hear its more positive now. Had a very similar situation with my mum a couple of years ago and she managed to pull through ok. Hope everything goes well and if you need any help on the boss slapping thingy then we are only dowm the road, more than happy to come and sort them out. keep smiling paul and chrissy |

What a ***COW*** - Anne W I mean. Think boss-slapping's too good for her. Must think up some really cruel & unusual punishment for her. How about: - locking her in a room with loads of assorted Aussie spiders/snakes - force feeding her with Pot Noodles - putting laxatives in her coffee, then hiding all the bathroom tissue (YAY! like that one) - setting her up for a date with some really awful sweaty smelly man - spreading a rumor that she's having an affair with some really awful man you work with. Go on, Bundy you must be able to think of some better ones.... Actually, I begin to wonder if we insult Anne Widdecombe here; tho' she's a bit weird, she seems like quite a caring - if misguided - person (despite being a Tory!) by comparison. Give my love to Bundy Mom, btw. Good to hear she's up on her Jimmy Choos! Anya |
Glad to hear all's going well Bundy!
Look after yourself :) And good luck to bundymum with the radiotherapy! And I'll join in with the slapping. :) |
Thought I'd post the latest - BundyMum has just been to the breast care clinic and her tumour has shrunk from a 20 to a 13 in the 3 months she's been on her drugs! They are very pleased with her progress, reckon they can make the bugger shrink to nothing within 6 months and completely de-activate it so that it won't spread anywhere else.
BM swears that it is the new diet she's on (the Plant diet, btw, as in Prof Jane Plant - very interesting) and the pommegranate she's been stuffing down as much as the conventional drugs, and her progress has certainly been speedy. I'm off to Jersey on 18th for 3 weeks to house and cat sit while my mum has her radiotherapy in Southampton and then look after her on her return. Anyone know about the after effects of a short course of radiotherapy? |

Anyone know about the after effects of a short course of radiotherapy? I had a 15 day course of radiotherapy after my chemo had finished, I don't think she'll have too much to worry about. I didn't find it anywhere like as awful as the chemo, basically radiotherapy is just like a really long x-ray, they expose you to radiation for a bit...the hardest part is the trekking backwards and forwards all the time. She will probably feel quite tired, but she shouldn't really feel ill as such. Oh, and if they do what they did to me, she'll have some teeny weeny tattoo dots put on her and then they draw little lines (a bit like dot to dot!!) around the breast area so that they can line up the machine every day accurately...at least that's what they did to me anyway! Hope it all goes well for her! love sophia xx Edited to add: PS: the diet sounds like it might be helping, I've just been to see a GP over here that specialises in cancer patients that the hospital have given up on (after chemo and radiotherapy failed) and they've basically sent them home cos they can't do anything more for them...anyway, this doctor uses the bodies own bio-chemistry and natures "superfoods" and is having impressive results. I've just started on a course to help with the side effects of the tamoxifen and although the stuff is bloody awful, I can see some improvements in my side effects already!! So tell her to keep going with all the alternative stuff! You just never know!! |

Originally posted by bundy Thanks Sophia - she's got off very lightly. No chemo, no surgery. The radiation will be on her neck and back/pelvis area. I'll tell her about the tattoo dots!!! She's going over next week to be 'marked up'. Luckily, because she's from Jersey, they have a separate little wing for the Channel Islanders so she'll be staying at this hostel on the hospital site, so no travelling to and from. She's a bit worried that it will be painful to lie down on the area she's having done on her back, thinks it might be tender. Hopefully it won't be too bad. love sophia xx |
Perhaps some pure aloe vera might help, but check out with the nurses - its cheap at Holland and Barrett at the mo & I swear by it.

I've never heard of drinking it... perhaps there are special pillows etc. too, might be worth finding out so you can get hold of them quick? Sorry if I'm giving you too many things to think of!
I'm so glad your mum's doing better, she's an encouragement to us all. It'll be such a relief when you go to Aus and know that she's made such an improvement. |
