We live in Wellington Point , it is a 5 min drive from Ormiston College which is highly regarded private school we are a 10 min walk from the shops which has a choice of restaurants and bars we are also a 5 min stroll to the train and if you go one stop one way there is a great Indian (spice avenue) owned by some people from the UK if you go the other way there is a Italian place (tomato brothers) a one more stop on from that a hogs breath so it quite central I think, defo worth a look

Loving the designed community,
I think they are good in the fact you can walk to shops and facilities and not have to rely on the car. But the small blocks would put me off.

The advantages are that it's close to CBD and schools, has a City Cat stop, Riverbend bookshop and an old style cinema. The disadvantage is that it's not cheap...

We live in Barton Parade. Instantly recognisable - its the one with the port-a-loo out the front not far from the the school on the hillside of the road!! (we're having a pool and extension built at the mo) I'm still not entirely convinced that 'loads' of Poms live here though. Would be interested to know who else is here??If you're ever passing feel free to say hi - we're both off work at the moment - engulfed in concrete, tile, sawdust and general rubble. We're both insane, no kids, 1 cat. If we're not at home we're always eating out
I think we are Balmoral / Bulimba 'lifers'. The house would have to fall down before I leave. And it probably will the way the builders are going.....

And it probably will the way the builders are going.....OH MY GOD - I must have seen you - I've just been trying to work out who you are and how long you've been here (don't panic - I'm not stalking you - I was just being incredibly nosey!) and I see from your posts you have a Sharpei. Now I'm 100% sure I saw a puppy Sharpei a couple of months back in Oxford st, and pointed your dog out to hubbie John - assuming of-course that was you - I've always been fascinated by Sharpeis. I think I've seen a 'grown up' one in Bulimba (Oxford Street) too. But I think its incredibly funny how many unusual dogs are in Bulimba / Balmoral / Hawthorne area. We have got a street full of Great Danes, Ridgebacks, French Poodles, Afghans, Dalmatians, Weimariners etc etc
And I see you were enquiring about a pool build ?(we're having ours done at the moment). And you have a Queenslander? (like us) And you're nuts about Bulimba? (thats us too). And you have (had) a famous footballer in your street? (us too)
Are you sure you're not trying to copy us?
(only joking by the way). Now you must definitely think I'm a total weirdo.
Anyway - if you're still seeking advice about pools then you should definitely PM us. We can certainly share some info / prices with you if you still need it. Ours was a really complicated pool build - on a steep hill - hardly any side access. But we had 4 quotes and we know of one company thats' DEFINITELY worth avoiding. The pool is poured, but we are building decking over one of our roof tops which links in with the pool so we can't get it filled for a few weeks yet and its not completely finished yet . If you want to see a pool in progress, then feel free to drop us a PM.

We really liked Bulimba too but we prefer the Paddington area. We are going to look for a place in that area and might go as far as The Gap.
Brisbane is the best and we can't wait to get there - 9 or 10 months to go!

We were torn between Paddington and Bulimba / Balmoral area. It all came down the specific house we eventually found. But yes I agree - Paddington is great too. I think the Gap is a very nice area but whenever there is a bush fire raging in Brisbane - we always seem to be able to see smoke coming from the Gap area which I find a bit scarey - though I'm sure someone will correct me and say I've got it totally wrong. I never was much good at geography.

The pool's on hold. We've got too many friends with pools which we can take advantage of for the time being. Raising the house will be our priority in the next year or so.
If you spot us anytime come and say hello
