Brisbane IT - Oracle
I'm a datawarehouse/pl-sql developer in Oracle, and I've been freelancing in the UK for the last 12 years for the major banks.
Whats the IT market like for database skills, and where are most the jobs based, or they spread around. Much anti-brit/age in Oz IT (I'm 40!!!)
Currently looking at bayside, brisbane to live, but if all the jobs are north of river then maybe move north.

I don't know what the market is like, but I would imagine the majority of the jobs would be in the CBD. Oracle have a building near the central station, so someone must use their stuff

What DagBoy said. Just to add that I've never had any anti-Brit sentiment at all. In my last job we had 4 Brits in the office and in this one we have 2. In both jobs we had a real mix of nationalities and everybody just got on with it Can't comment on the age thing, you've got a few years on me

Yeah - I should have said that too - never experienced any anti brit sentiments. Our office at the moment has 2 poms (one became a citizen last Friday) an Aussie/NZ German descent born in Fiji, An Aussie born Greek, An Aussie born Aussie, A Kiwi who has lived here 25 years, a South African and a German. Most customers I do work for have a similar sort of mix. One department all put their flag of origin up behind their desks - I think there were only three Aussie flags alongside 1 French, 1 Iraqi (inside a US flag), 1 Eire, 3 English, 1 Indian.
Also, age - I have not noticed any issues, but then, I have not been applying for jobs.
Cheers,
DagBoy

My Mrs is IT and the wages on the GC are pretty poor compared with the UK (about 1/3 of what she earned) and she found it tough to get a start.
