Not sure how things are in Perth right now but things are slowing down a little here in Sydney. All the work my company(and a lot of other larger companies) has had in the last twelve months has been from the stimulus package, which is now mostly finished. My company is starting to lay people off and so are others.
I am not suprised its been hard for you guys because it is always hard in the beginning, there is a stigma attached to overseas tradies and also if things are getting tighter in Perth it doesn't go down well employing overseas brickies. The money is probably a tad low though I would say you could probably get $270-$280 elsewhere but the money has gone down a bit. Things change fast in this industry one minute theres heaps of pressure to work overtime the next they are laying people off and I mean that literally. Good luck and hang in there once they see you can do the job and the quality is there things change, all the best.
