Default breaking lease on rental

just wondered if any one knows the penalties for breaking your rental lease.

our rental lease runs out at the end of august and we have been told by the new owners of the property that they will be moving down from brisbane into the property so we will be unable to renew the lease

at the moment theres a few decent rentals on the market in our area that i doubt will be available come august, is it worth breaking your lease to secure the right property?
or will we just have to see whats out there the month before the lease expires
hate to miss out on the one across the road from the beach thats 50 bucks a week cheaper if the penalties are minimal

You would be liable for the rent until the end of your lease, but seeing as you are not able to get new tenants in I would have a chat with the new owners and see if you can come to some agreement as it would only be fair.

There is a Rental Release admin charge, dependant upon the weekly rent and the term of your rental. Then you are liable for rental payment for every week the property is empty up until the agreed end of your original lease. In your case, as there will be no new leasing agreement, you should talk to your agency to enable a compromise for all parties. But, either way you will have to pay our extra dollars for the release unless you complete the term.
