Default Boats

Now....i suspect Ceri or MM would be my best bet here, but if anyone else knows please do pipe up !

I would be interested in buying a boat when i get over there, as both the wife and i love our fishing.

Now....the father in law has offered to give us his old trailer and 25hp outboard, which is great for a start, so its looking like we might get a tinny to start off with, and buy somthing a bit bigger later on.

My question regards the navigation/sea proficiency exams over there...Are they easy? Expensive? Take long to get? Is there a rego for the boat needed, or just for the trailer? I've got the info on safety regs, what gear you need in the boat etc.

If I have my boat in QLD....can i use it in NSW, SA etc? Is the licence Aus wide, or defined by state boundries?

What sort of boat do you have? Recommend any particular type?

We hope to keep the tinny we get initially, to use for bara up in the far north, so were thinking about getting a punt style boat. A bit later we are hoping for somthing like a centre console FGlass or similar.....

Any suggestions?

Cheers

Pete.
