Being honest I have had HNC on my CV for the last 15 years, did actually complete the course (failed 2 subjects then got made redundant before I could retake them), and can do the job I'm employed to do wether I have a HNC or not. I have never been asked to show my qualifications to any employer.
Will australian companies want to see my qualifications? I just feel that if I'm up front about it then I won't get a chance to show what I can do.
BTW - If you think I'm the sort of person that shouldn't be allowed into Australia then that's just fine, just keep your opinions to yourself. I got my PR visa fair and square and was completely honest about my qualifications in my application for skills assessment with IEAust. So there!

When you get to Oz I'd advise you to send of your ONC certificate to the government assessing authority (in QLD its free and takes about one month) they will send you back a certificate stating what the equivalent qualification is in oz. I sent of two HNC certs (one for Mech Engineering and one for CAD) they both were assessed as Advanced Diploma level. You may find your ONC comes back the same. When applying for jobs it was these Ozzie equivalent certs that employers seem to be interested in.
On the job hunt side, I've been applying for CAD jobs for a couple of weeks now, with little to no response as yet. Unfortunately I've very little commercial CAD experience but have the qualification - have to say I'd rather have the experience (chicken and egg syndrome). There does seem to be heaps of CAD work around (contract at least) paying very good wages. I think you'll have no problem in finding work with or without an HNC.

I signed on with an agency they didnt look at my quals they got me various interviews and non of those looked at my quals. So you might get away with it but then again sods law says if you dont have them they will want to see them.

Blag your way in mate. I am now doing the a job I have no qualifications for and have never done before but I am coping very well, probably better than my Aussie co workers, most of which are drongos...Including the boss.
Go for it mate, what have you got to lose?

My boss told me this, not because I lied by the way, just he thought it quite amusing after hearing it on a business employment law course.
I'm not condoning telling lies for a job, just thought you may be interested to know this.
Couldn't you complete the bits you missed or failed on to get your HNC now ?

Anyway the company are updating their profile and think this would be a good thing to include in it so they ask her for a copy of the certificates.
She lets it go for a while and then HR begin to chase her for them so she says she has lost them. No problem they say, find out who needs to reprint them and we'll pay. Again she let's it go on for a while and in the end has to admit that she doesn't have the qualifications.
Now don't forget she has been working for this company for 10 years, her boss calls her into the office and sacks her for lying on her CV all those years ago!
