I have rhesus neg blood group., so does that make me more susceptible to bites?. I think it has a lot to do with allergies though as I am allergic to Penicillin and sure am to these bites. . we installed a mozzie zapper to see if it would do the trick.. we have lots of pot plants in hanging baskets.., they get watered regularly.. Do you think the mossies will live in them.. my partner says as the water is renewed every few days they cannot live in them...You say that sand flies leave a bite mark..that has me wondering now if it is mozzies?? How can you tell for sure?
I remember reading something that we all get bitten by mossies but its only if you are allergic to the saliva in the bite that you get the itchy reaction, my husband always gets bitten and the mossies seem to fly over me just to land on him, which is quite handy

Not sure about your hanging baskets, any stagnant water is not a good idea but can't imagine they would be living in your hanging baskets but I'm no expert.

Flies are doing my head in here - only in certain places/areas etc but when u bump into them u bump into millions of them!!!
I used to make a mint/vinegar mix up for my horse (and me) years ago - am growing mint in the garden now so will be trying it out again soon, see if it works on aussie flies![Confused](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif)
We were on a beach walk yest eve with the dog, i had the poo bag...and was surrounded by millions of flies - totally gross!

you need to move up next to us Kat there are very few flies around by us at the moment ... and even the mozzies are getting getting fewer as the weather warms up

But then i couldnt take the wee beasties and the dog for walks on the beach every evening.....
the coast around adelaide is definitely worse for flies than the city or the hills ... especially if you are anywhere near sand dunes etc
