I visited my sister in Canberra a couple of years ago and that would have been my preference for location but as my husband is a truck driver work was limited for him. We loved Canberra.

If the house sells before the boy is 4 years old then yes we will rent something in Canberra and try it for 6 months or so first.

Glad you liked it here :)

I was tempted to meet people but I'm shy! Also the wife is a bit suspicious of me spending so much virtual time on BE. Maybe next time as we are most likely going back to Canberra. I found it a very pleasant place with none of the things I hate about Australia seemingly too present.

The Bryson book make have been accurate about Canberra a few years ago, but to me it's a proper city now with a definite European class feel to it.

So if like me you are not finding chav Australia to your liking it might be worth you checking out Canberra first before flying home too quick.

Bloody hell! Are you actually saying that not ALL Australia is crap and that not ALL Australians are thick?

Glad you had a good time. :)

Too cold and too far from a beach mate.

I found the city to be very deceptive, on the face of it it looked like there wasn't much there. After a bit of exploring we found about 30+ attractions, 2 westfields, The main City shopping area, Civic. The war memorial and questacon were great. Driving was a doddle. Rush hour was basically 'what rush hour?' I've done a city by city comparison on excel I'll export it to text and put it here to give people some idea of how the place compared in my eyes....2 ticks.....

Well there were a lot of non Australians there, most seemed to be well educated and well dressed, or should I say dressed appropriately for the occasions. Plenty of accents that most definitely were not Australian and those Australians I did meet seemed to have a despair for the rest of Australia. Probably because of all the Canberra bashing that goes on. My chart came out a bit pants, sorry. Can’t figure out how to maintain formatting on the forum posts.

Mate, there are a lot of non Australians everywhere, but it's all down to the type of non Australians you click with at the end of the day. :)
I guess I'm used to non Aussie accents up here too, so it's no big deal for me.... and the same goes for the 'despair' thing too.

I love that chart. Oh I do, I do, I do. :D

I'll say it, it looks a bit shit, couldn't get the format to keep the spacing.
It is our views thogh, for example the amount of chavs was very small and the roads were the best I've seen in the country, Crime is supposedly very low too. Kingston had about 30 excellent restraunts within a minutes walk! Just need to loose a stone again now.

Go chase some alpacas... that should do it. ;)
