Bicycle Shipping
Hey,
Has anyone had any experience of taking their bicycle to Australia? Is it possible to book it onto your flight for a fee?
I would loose too much money selling it here in the UK.
Any help would be great
Regards

Think you just need to get all the dirt off them by jet washing them. Some people said you can take them on the plane in the hold?? Not so sure about this unless pre arrangements are made at extra costs? Other people just ship them in with their stuff......
I just know they have to be free of dirt!

Re: Bicycle Shipping
Hi
I shipped my bike with the rest of my goods using the Excess Baggage company. It must be absolutely clean, especially the tyres otherwise you will get hammered for Customs and Quarantine charges in Australia. I bought a bike bag for extra protection.
Not sure how much shipping it on an airline would cost but the Excess Baggage company has much cheaper prices - if you're flying from Heathrow or Gatwick, they have an outlet near the check-in desks, so you could drop it off after you check in...handy if you're not shipping anything else. I had mine picked up from my house using their door to door service.
Good luck,
AngC

Re: Bicycle Shipping
most airlines will let the bike go for free. you need to buy a shipping box. strip it. pedals, bars , wheels etc and give it a bloody good clean. it should not count as excess baggage as it is sporting goods. the same also applied when i brought my snow boards over. brought the bike with ba and snowboards with cathay and there was no additional charge. the snowboard bag weighed 33 kilos in addition to my packed backpack.

Re: Bicycle Shipping
We shipped HID bike in our shipping container as it was nearly new and we would not have got much for it if we sold it. I spent a grand total of 3 weeks cleaning everything from lawn mower-pc's prior to shipping. I think my power tools were the worst to clean, after all that i needed a few
