Can anyone advise of a good optician in Perth? We are looking for a Specsaver, vision express type thing with good value contact lenses and frames deals etc.

Not sure if you can get a cheaper deal if you and your partner sign up?

We've got Specsavers over this side, you may have them here. No idea how good they are, thought they were crap in the UK, not the prices but the quality of eye testing. Yellow pages or Google should find them.

Yes, we have Specsaver here in Perth. Personally I wouldn't go there for an eye test (like moneypen says), but that's just me.

Sounds like Specsavers are abit rubbish then, anybody have tips on good opticians instead? I though a chain store might be better value, however maybe a independant store is better quality??

Laubman & Pank are an excellent chain. You have them over there.

would you know how much a contact lens check would cost? is it something that can be bulk billed or whatever it is? also how much is an eye test at Laubman & Pank? thankyou!

I had real problems with OPSM in Joondalup a few years ago. I think it was cheap, but the service was appalling. It may have improved if the plank who was running it has moved on.

Best bet is to phone them up. I know that eye tests can be bulk-billed because they always have a sign outside the shop to say so. But don't know about contact lens check. Just phone the branch you want to visit and ask about their charges and what can/can't be bulk-billed.

We've been to a few different ones in Perth.

Eye-Q in Karrinyup and Whitfords are generally good in terms of eye tests. Having said that I found both opticians a little brusque.

Specsavers in Whitfords is also a very good optician - in fact I think he was the best - especially with little kids.

In terms of glasses, Specsavers were cheap and have been pretty good on the whole. One pair I have for reading seem a little less good in terms of quality than I'm used to.

Eye-Q glasses were, I thought, extremely overpriced. They also tried to persuade my wife to purchase $300 pair for our 6 year old. A good job I stepped in at the last minute to stop the sale - I thought selling a $300 pair of specs to a young kid who would be running around the playground and 'might need her prescription changing in a few months" (Eye-Q's optician's words) was a bit unethical.
