Default Best areas in Victoria or Adelaide/SA

Hi, my first post (i think) on the Aussie forum.
I'm a pom living in NZ at the moment. Now there's nothing wrong with NZ, but we have the travel bug now and may consider a move to Oz in a few years.
Just from looking on the net, we (I) are/am quite keen on Adelaide or surrounding areas (maybe Port Lincoln??/ Fl Penninsula), or somewhere in Victoria. To be honest the closer i can be to Phillip Island the better (just wish the weather was better ) as i'm a bike racing nut! and miss watching world class racing that i did in UK!

Where are the best/nicest areas in Adelaide or Melbourne to live, i'm not a city person so i would not live in the cities but somewhere that is not miles from everywhere.

Vague question i know, but i'm just trying to get a handle on it so that i can do some more research for the future.

Thanks guys.

I live on the Fleurieu Peninsular at Goolwa. I think it's a lovely place. Close enough to Adelaide for day trips, far enough away to be away from the crowds. There are numerous small towns to choose from since you're not a city person.

I have some photos online here: http://www.hartill.net/Oz/
