Belongings
Hi, easy question! I have just had a quote for around £6000 to bring all our possessions to OZ, would I be able to furnish a 2 bed property for less or the same value in OZ? Thanks Richard & Elaine

Don't know but your 6k quote is very high, especially if this is for a 2 bedroomed place. I have quite a lot of stuff, large pieces of furniture and a home cinema but, required a 40foor container but it still didn't cost as much as that.
I recommend shopping around and then comparing again.

Re: Belongings
So what is an average price for shipping goods? We're hoping to only need a 20ft container to bring my husband's tools, baby stuff & some bigger furniture to get our monies worth from the container.
Someone told us £2000 then someone else said £4000

£6,000? Flaming nora! We 'only' paid £2,700 six years ago and most people recently have mentioned the same sort of amount. Someone's trying to fleece you.

Re: Belongings
I agree with the others, the quote sound VERY high
I was reading recently about a quote for just over 4k for a 20" container including aquis fees etc from Scotland to Melbourne.
where are you moving from and where to?
Its cheaper to ship everything than to buy new again.

We moved from London to Adelaide with a 20ft container 5 months ago and that cost us £4,600 without insurance

Your shipping quote is very high, we paid 2500 ish for 3 bed house, think you need to shop about for a much lower one...

Re: Belongings
For a 2 bed property you would not need more than a 20' and you could probably container share for your best items for £2000
We are selling everything in UK and starting again in Oz, taking a few boxes only. There are plenty of ways to buy 2nd hand furniture.....depends if you think you have to have all new!!
People telling you how much it cost for them to hire a container 250 years ago or whatever is unhelpful at best!!

£4000 would be about right for a 20' container and £6000 for a 40'

A large three bed with four large sheds fitted easily in a 20ft reefer and that included crates of tools and mechanic equipment. Don't know if they still use reefers but they're worth going for.

Re: Belongings
Cheers all.
It's looking like £4200 for a 20 foot! Think we will selling so much and leaving the rest for the tenants when we rent the house. Come across withe the bair minimum and let the misses have a spending spree!!
Thanks for the info
Richard
