Default Is this being tight?....

.....booking flights to Melbourne on China Airlines?

I've seen them on the Asda website for £350 one way.

Anyone have any experience of them?

Thanks

Hey, we are not tight.......the original poster is the tight one ! ! !

We paid a 'normal' price for our flights as we only wanted one stop (as we have three kids) and need to get to where we are going as soon as possible!

only thing I'd say is that China Air has one of the worst safety records in the industry - they're known for recruiting poor pilots too.

probably without kids I'd have travelled with them but with rugrats now in tow I wouldnt.

but, cheap is cheap, and you cant beat that price.

you will certainly have some tales to tell.

Search this forum using search option - there are plenty of comments about htem came up about 2mths ago.

last fligth i had with them - this was business class (!) - they had a movie showing on one of those drop-down-projectors with 4 bulbs... and the seats had ashtrays the plane was so old. You really , really, wanna think about this. It will not be a comfortable experience food service wise , cabin staff wise, or any tother wise. You probably wont crash because that dont happen so much however you wont eat much and it'll be pretty basic. Think Easyjet with a touch of aeroflot. There wont actually be chickens running in the aisles of the plane but you'll hear them in the overhead baggage bins

When we got our visa letter through, we had details from IOM (International Organization for Migration) who were able to able to get us reduced one way fares only with Quantas with 40KG luggage allowance. I don't know if the IOM details are sent with all the visa letters but it may be worth a try.

The cost of our flights was about £430.00 each (including all taxes and fees).

The IOM e-mail is [email protected]

I wouldnt fly with them if you paid me! A plane goes down on a regular basis and the pilots are poorly trained.
Pay a bit more and fly Malaysian at least.

Have to agree, they have a poor safety record. Quite a few of their fatal crashes have been crew error (like pressing the wrong button, taking the wrong course) or maintenance error.

They are trained by some English speaking staff, who could say to them "fly into the side of that mountain", and the trainee would nod yes, yes.
Seriously, they havent mucb of a clue!

Lots of it is to do with eastern culture - there are many examples where a Captain on an eastern airline has made a wrong decision, but the First Officer won't correct him because the Captain is his superior officer. The whole culture of cockpit management is very different.

Getting back to the chickens in the baggage bin (love it!!!), a friend who emigrated in 1980 came by a tortuous route including a sector on a Pakistani airline. Passengers on that one had a small camping stove, and were seen cooking thir dinner in the aisle.

That's scary :scared: !!

I remember when my boss planned a trip to climb Kilimanjaro and flew out on Ethiopian Airways.

He took some photos of the wing of the aircraft. It was held together with ducting tape...and you could see some the tape fraying!!!!!

ohhh...and there was a hole in the floor of the aisle.

Pollyana...maybe it was the same plane your firiend flew on and PIA had sold it onto Ethiopian...and the hole had been caused by fire from the stove

Love the comment about the chickens!!

Its not tight to find the cheapest flight. I don't think I would fly with them as I can't imagine it being a very comfortable flight.

Nothing wrong with being tight....I know Royal Brunei do flights to Perth for under 350 one way so if I have to foot the bill then reclaim, I will definitely be taking the cheaper option.
