Please do not flatter yourself that i entered this forum just to speak to you. are you feeling ganged up on? OK, i'll leave you be, your inflated male ego is obviously feeling a little sensitive. Never mind, maybe wifey will make you a mung bean broth to cheer you up. :D :D |

Originally posted by jad n rich Mrs D your diet is very very different from our household, my boys would be climbing the walls with 23 sugared or frozen items, I dont think they get that much junk in a year. We have to buy wholemeal, wholegrain, unprocessed as possible, fresh fruit veg and no processed meats. Very different shopping lists, although I still cant see that $125 contains many real meals do you have to buy dinner type food as well? |
Not surreal for me Polly. Forearming myself, as I'll be in Brisbane in September. Anyway, back to the cat-fight.......:scared: |
Wow, MrsDagboy eats sooooooooooooooooooo many lollies and all my favourites... now I got the cravings. :)

LOL, Id do more than BBQ it if I could get a hold of it  |
the one that killed all our chickens I did have a look on the Coles website, but they don't seem to sell fox, so I can't tell you how much you can save by catching your own instead of buying !:D |

By the way Pick N pay is a Coles brand. (I only bought some Kangaroo steaks myself) Jayr I think I have driven past that store. Is it a huge white warehouse thing on the right as you go into N. Brisbane? I was tempted to have a look I will put that on to my list of things to do when we next drive in. |
Bloody hell!!!
I only asked if they sell blummin Heinz Baked Beans in OZ. No need to have a slangin match over the price of grub. Calm down :D |
There was some interesting stuff in there though; and kept us all amused for a while!!!
|
I cant believe a thread this long has developed about one of the most aweful "food" (and I use that term loosely) EVER!!!
:D ;) :D |
I know but it has been amusing!
|
I always thought:
"Beanz meanz Heinz", Not: "Beanz Meanz A Bloody Good Row"!!! :D ;) |
Does anyone care that I hate hate hate baked beans. And judging by the blood pressure they create, I think I'll stay that way. Very funny though.:D

Actually I have won Ceris challenge to find WonderWhite bread cheap, but I think I will pass on scanning the docket in case it brings more wrath :D

Originally posted by MrsDagboy Actually I have won Ceris challenge to find WonderWhite bread cheap, but I think I will pass on scanning the docket in case it brings more wrath :D I haven't been shopping yet.. usually go Thursay night , sometimes sat morning.. but I will scan my doc and show you UP bread is $2.89 .. there abouts, very close to $3.. I'll also price up wonderwhite while I'm there, but I'm not buying it.. don't like the taste.of that brand .. this is usually over $2 .. woolworths cheers ;) P.s my whole bill, weekly shop usually comes to around $145/$150 .. and have all my veggies , and cleaning goods such as washing powder ( $6 just for 1kilo of powder .. forget bread.. try powder for expense.. Dynamo) and stuff on it.. your bill seems expensive just for 45 items at $120 something ( it's the sweet stuff that has knocked your bill up) |

The refills in 1 lite size in those environmentally friendly packets cost $2.05/litre, think I'll stick with the big ones. I also bought some milk, they didn't ahve the 2 litre so I bought two 1 litre bottles, whcih was 1 cent cheaper than one big bottle! As a smoker I buy fags in cartons, 200 at a time, saves about $10 or more compared to buying them individually. I usually buy the 25 packs (8 to a carton) but once at Coles they didn't have them, only the 20 packs (ten to a carton) for which they charged about $5 more for the same amount of fags! I pointed this out and the guy said there was more packaging, I reminded him that I didn't buy them for the cardboard boxes they came in.... |

LOL You just said that you challenged anyone to find UP or Wonderwhite for under $2 & I did - $1.88 at my local Woolworths, I even stole the sticker off the front of the shelf to show you :D . (I know UP bread now, must have been having a blonde moment the other day, I have bought it plenty of times, but only when its on special ;) ) . Yeah I know about the groceries, trust me, thats not my usual type of bill  , I have found a couple of others that are alot more typical, but Im reticent to post them. Agree about the washing powder, we use OMOmatic in our frontloader & its about $5 something for 1kg, I used to buy 2 or 3 packs when it was on special, used to get it for around $4 & under sometimes, but it doesnt seem to have been on special lately  . Cleaning products in general are expensive, they certainly push up your weekly shop :scared: |

I often get Fluffy as well, the blue one, but have you tried IronEze? Its bloody expensive (about $4.50 for 1 litre) but it smells absolutely divine. I stock up if its on special. PS I get pauls milk delivered by the Milko & it costs me $2.80 for 2litres, dunno what it costs at the supermarket now. |

I buy a generic brand softner - which is less than $1 for the refills , Dynamo washing powder which is around $6. ( for a kilo and a half) .. I was wrong earlier .. I think the kilo box is $4.99 etc .. only one I find that gets things clean. The only generic brands I buy are usually all non food items.. foil, cling fillm, softner.. kitchen roll and that's it. I shall scan my dockett when I next go shopping.. so people can have a nose at my personal stuff ..lol |

I go for the Physical milk with extra calcium,, pricier than the normal stuff at $3.29/2 litres. I still find it funny that when I've ran out of detergent and fabric conditioner I go to the shop with "Fluffy OMO" or "Cuddly OMO" on my list |
Can I ask the men a question here , or the other women about their hubby's ( cuddly and fluffy reminded me of it..lol)
when you do the shopping will you , or do you pick up sanitary items .. like tampax for your Mrs.. My hubby refuses to do this when he goes shopping .. he will not get them for me. I ask him why, and he's says he'll look like a right weirdo buying that, but I have seen other men in queues with them in their trolleys... they don't have a prob with it. cheers |

I do up to half of the shopping, mostly to avoid all of us including kids going out for something so mundane. I hate it if the list just says something like 'towels', I mean be specific! I need to know the name, size, quantity, colour of packaging etc. I don't want to stand there for 10 minutes trying to select the most appropriate! When I was in Coles last night a brand of mascara was on the list with the colour etc. Coles didn't have that particular one so I phoned home to check. As I wandered down the aisle there was another bloke standing in front of the sanitary section on the mobile talking to his wife... |
My husband will happily go get them, doesnt even flinch :D
We were also in the supermarket last week and spotted two teenage boys hovering around the condom section nervously picking up the band aids next to them... being hte good samaritan that he is, he tapped them on the shoulder and loudly announced that he would go pay for them if they liked and what flavour did they want? :D :D :D Didnt know teenagers could move that quick !! |

must be just my hubby then.. mascara lol.. I'd love to see my hubby getting that for me.. I can tell you his reply now.. you must be fing joking.. I'd look like a poofter buying that..lol
Very charming he is too, but buying tampax and make -up .. no, no - he would never get them for me in a million years. ...... can't you remember what it's like being a teen Podgy , that's mean .. I love it!! lol |
Originally posted by MrsDagboy Had to laugh at the phone call story, Ive had quite a few calls from Dagboy when hes been shopping too :D . The worst of it is that the Woolies I use it is impossible to get mobile reception unless I go into the far corner of the store near the window. If I'm trying to select between tampax, I either have to take them with me to where I get mobile reception or try to memorise the different ones. Perhaps Ceri's husband has the better idea, just refuse! |
Podgy, Dagboy doesnt bat an eyelid either ;) . Ive seen grown men sliding surreptitiously up to the condom section, let alone teenagers :D .
jayr, LOL would love to see you with your arms full trying to discuss it on the phone :D |
I see that this thread is 7th overall in number of replies, needs ten more replies to get to 5th place. It's amazing that a question about beans can prompt such aresponse.
Sooo.. to keep it going, does anyone know roughly the rules for application of GST to food shopping? My docket has an asterisk next to those items that have GST on them, a sample as follows With GST: Mr Muscle cleaner Smiths Chips Milo Bar Light Bulb (Globe) Peanuts Kids Toothpaste Without GST: Milk Mayonnaise Fruit and Veg Cajun Seasoning Rump Steak Not sure I see a pattern |
ooh ooh I know this one ..lol.. but do the pollies? yes it's madness
it's for all non essential food .. like processed food.. ie if you buy a ready meal - GST on a lot of them if you buy basics .. i.e. essential food..like all veggies, meat etc - no GST peanuts.. buy raw peanuts .. ie non packed ones.. no GST salted peanuts etc - GST cat food - GST tampax - GST ( as if this is isn't essential !) all things like choc and sweets GST soft drinks - GST 100% orange juice - no GST ........................ so long as you don't like to wash your hair, brush your teeth., use cleaning products, don't like light, .eat cakes and sweets etc.. you can live a non GST life when shopping 9 to go |
I tried to find a GST list on the ATO website but couldn't. I did find out that had I pre booked a funeral before 1 Dec 1999 and paid for it before 2005 then I would have avoided GST. Cardboard box for me then...
