ANZ are easy to set up, but are a bunch of hopeless tossers. ING offer a good deal if you open one when you arrive.

I opened an ANZ Access Advantage account. Fees are $5 per month for unlimited ANZ transactions. You can open it in the UK, just download, complete and post the application from the website and they respond in a few weeks with your account details. The account is locked until you arrive in Australia and then you can unlock it, but you can still put money in there from the UK so its ready for when you get there.

Westpac

Compared them all before we went and opened a Westpac Account from the UK. Reviewed our choice soon after arriving. Stayed with Westpac although we changed our accounts on their advise to more beneficial ones. Reviewed our decision before getting a mortgage and credit card. Looked at the banks, all the opinions and all the charges. We will be staying with Westpac and by the way I work for the Council and have no connection with Westpac. They have been very good and helped us along loads.

I would recommended them 100%
