Simple - no visa, no travel. Until that visa is granted and in your passport it is worthless. It would be very, very, very risky to come here on the hope of a 457 being granted. As others have said I think the immigration mob at the airport would want a lot of words with you.

Thanks everyone for your input. Sorry for the confusion. Perhaps our situation is a bit different. Husband has a job offered but can't leave his currently employment until April. His Aussie employer doesn't want to process 457 visas until he arrives. We thought of sending the kids in Brisbane now so they can start a new academic year (as we understand the school year just began a few weeks ago). Our kids are in private school now so we don't want to loose advance tuition fees knowing we will leave in April.
Anyway, we just found out from EQI website that our kids can enroll in school as tourist visa, then switch to bridging visa (apparently much cheaper) until 457s arrived.
Thanks

Just to confirm, you are currently in UK with your kids in Private school and you want to avoid paying advance school fees for the next UK school year as you will not be going? Why not just take the hit on the advance school fees, worst case scenario then is that hubby does not get the Oz job and you have to stay in UK and reinstate your kids at the private school and lose any advance fee reduction. Far better than than to travel half way round the world, enrol kids in a school and then find it all goes belly up and you have to cart everyone back to UK again.
Make sure you are listening to what we are all saying here....DO NOT bring your family over until you have the 457 Visa approval.
Oh........one other thing.......are you sure you mean a 457 Visa and not a 475??? just wondered............

Re: Awaiting for 457 while the kids in primary schools
Even if you successfully make the entry into Australia and then the employer applies for the visa, do you realise how long can take to get all the paperwork together to submit the application?
My husband was offered the job in March, process was started pretty much straight away though it took until end June for the visa submission to be made - and this was with a company already approved for sponsoring employees. The nomination and visa application went in together. That is over 3 months just until the visa application went in, without the wait for the visa to be approved. The 457 can take anything from a couple of days to a couple of months (or longer) to be approved, depending on personal circumstances.
