Re: Average wage increases
I thought the average UK wage was much higher than that. Obviously wrong though. I suppose I was thinking London wages.

I'm waiting for someone to say I've got it wrong.

Yeah, but you forgot to adjust for the quality of life. That adds another $25,000 to the Australian figure.
[sorry I'll keep my satire to that other thread...]

Average wages resurrected
The Australian average wage is now $50,013 per year
November 19, 2004
The Bureau of Statistics said average weekly ordinary-time earnings for full-time workers climbed to $961.80 in August - an annual salary of $50,013.
The earnings figures showed workers in the ACT have the highest average ordinary-time earnings of $56,227.60 and Tasmania the lowest with $45,682. The figure in NSW was $51,761 a year.
When overtime and bonuses are added the national annual salary is $52,500.
But looking deeper, a shop assistants award wage is $507.40 per week in Victoria, that's only $26,384.80 per year. Not much of a difference, comparison wise to the average wages, (for shop workers) to the UK by the looks of things.
