Dear all and sundry,
We are looking at various options for migration at present - and may well be limited in our potential areas if we were to go the PR route via STNI to Vic and the NT!
Out of the blue an opportunity seems to have arisen in Australind just north of Bunbury on the west coast - although this would be on a 457 temp with PR sponsorship in 2 years. Adequate package in place but no flexibility regarding sponsorship of a different type or time frame.
Any views about the area most welcome.
Would be very keen to hear of good schools in the area.

There is a member on here who lives in Australind, bridie but not sure if you will catch her much at the moment, just had a beautiful little bubba. You could always send her a PM. Anyway, not much help but no doubt someone else will be along who can give you more information.

Hi.
We are also looking to move to Bunbury in the not to distant future. Not to sure about the sponsorship details as we are being sponsored due to my wife being a nurse. As for Bunbury though, a friend of mine moved there 11 years ago and said they wouldn't live anywhere else.
The schools are also meant to be excellent. We've been looking for our eldest who's seven, and Australind and Dallyelup which is south of the town (I think) are both meant to be really good.
Not sure what age your kids are, but school clubs start at 7am and are open till 6pm which covers most of the everyday shift patterns apparently.
Hope thats of some use to you.
Keep in touch, Pete.

We also live in Dalyellup, south of Bunbury. Australind is okay, and slightly further out of Bunbury than Dalyellup. There are a couple of new estates north of Australind called Treendale, and the other I can't remember! So if you want new and flash I would opt for them. Also, nearby is a place called Eaton and by all accounts is a bit run-down, although it has local 7-day a week shopping (Bunbury doesn't!). Australind has more affordable housing as opposed to Dalyellup (approx. $50K more expensive) and the blocks would probably be the same size, although again more expensive in Dalyellup. In the near future, Dalyellup will have a $25 million dollar state middle school, as well as another state primary school. In a couple of years time it will also get a shopping centre, so there are several new developments in the pipeline. The lifestyle is great although wet and windy at the moment. The South-West is certainly a great place to live. There are loads of things to do and we'll only be 1 1/2 hours from Perth in the next year or two.

Our scenario is similar to yours - although as teachers there are fewer opportunities as a norm but clearly the appointment of staff to semi-metropolitan areas is an issue.
We have actually been to WA and the Australind/Bunbury region a couple of times except we didn't think back then that we might move to WA!!
The current education dept package on a 457 included subsidised accommodation so we wouldn't be buying but there is clearly a lot of new housing in the area.
We have 2 girls – 10 and 4 so the schooling is important. We would consider private ed. so if you had any specific info that would be great.
How soon do you plan to move?

Hi I live in Dalyellup but had my heart set on Australind before i came out but when i saw Dalyellup that was it!!It is so clean and tidy with lots of parks and with loads of things to do in and around Bunbury which is just a 10 min drive away Dalyellup school have been great with my 7 yr old he needs alot of help and they have come through for him. They are just building a high school so he will not have to change...but i think the schools are run very different to what English schools are and it takes a while to get used to them...

Although the work would appear to be in Australind we would be provided with accommodation - would Bunbury or Dalyellup be commutable?
Do you know where we could get more details on the new school and I assume there is a new road hence the decreased time to Perth?

Australind is about a 20 min drive from Dalyellup..
Also if you do not get that job offer i would look around as there is a shortage of teachers here Steve is a teacher(secondary) and got a job offer within a few weeks of arriving..much to his dismay!!!!!
one thing though apply for your police clearance as soon as you arrive as that took a few weeks to come back and you cannot work in the school until you have it!! Jackie.

Hi Bezza.
We are hoping to move in the latter end of the year. My wife has agreed sponsorship with one of the hospitals in Bunbury which makes things a lot smoother for us. I work in engineering so I'm going to look for work when we arrive.
We also looked at Australind as thats where my friend stays, but they have advised us to look at Dalyellup instead due to the schooling. We have 2 boys which are 7 and 2. Apparently the nurseries are really good for the wee man, and like Jackie/Steve are saying my friends kids went to school there when they arrived and loved it.
I'll be talking to them soon, if I hear anything relevant, will let you know.
Pete.
