Default Australian expo (Good or bad)???

Hi all,
We went to the Leeds expo yesterday with our parents with a hope of helping them get a visa, expecting to find lots of help from very knowledgeable people well trained in there own category for the purpose of helping potential migrants.
Our experience was something very different. The people on hand had very little knowledge ( one of them told us to try the (FREE VETASSES SKILLS ASSESMENT!!!), they are most certainly not free, we told him this to which he replied “well I have been telling every one else they are free”. I was talking to another person and told them that I was emigrating to Auz in 5 weeks and was after some help for my parents, they where not interested in helping them just wanted to help me with my tax file number, Medicare stuff, give me a FREE sim card and then charge me £99 for there help.
There was not one registered migration agent there. It was a very small setup with only a hand full of real potential jobs opportunities for a very small minority of people.
It seemed to me to be a good way for some people to travel the world and make some money at the expense of would be migrants.
That was just our experience, if yours was better or worse please put something down for future people.

I'd be interested to hear any other peoples thought about this, as I was planning on going to the Expo in London next weekend.

Me and my mate went. It was very small and only had stalls for nursing and engineering.I went to the adelaide and innigration seminars which i loved the one about adelaide they guy sold it to me all over again as after 2 years of research and saying adelaide is the place for us i was starting to turn to brisbane areas. So im at 90% adelaide and 10% brisbane.
I didnt learn a thing as i know everything that they said (immi sem) my mate even said 'you know more then these guys" lol.My mate learnt a bit from the immi seminar.
So if your into nursing or engineering go if not i woundnt bother.
I didnt see any immi companys as eg go matilda or anything like that which i was dissapointed in.
Anyway ive told my mate to get herself on here as she will learn so much more about the whole process.

P.s the adelaide seminar guy was lovely very helpful and loved his birthplace...hes was from highagte in adelaide

Hi,

Tx for starting this Thread! I'v got another Thread asking who is going to the London Expo - next weekend (which is run by the same Events Company).

Anyway we have one destination in mind and thats Adelaide! We have done alot of research and I thought this Exhibition would be good. I truelly hope that the London one is not as bad as the Leeds one. We are travelling up from Devon on Friday, staying in a hotel in Surrey, then it's trains, food, petrol expenses etc. If it's cr*p I'll not be impressed.

But the good feedback is about Adelaide - so lets hope we get to have a good chat to that guy!

Anymore feedback from the Expo would be appreciated peeps!

I'm off to London next week and all I can say if it's a naff as the one that was in Leeds and I think I'll ask for my money back.

According to their website they were supposed to have lots of stalls covering all different jobs - we are looking not only at nursing but also governement so here's hoping London has more.

Was at the Australian expo in Belfast recently, I can only tell you that for us it was the biggest waste of time. We had to pay an entry fee and then subsequently were charged to hear 4 guys talking about immigrating, which was so rushed it only lasted 20 minutes.

They kept saying if they had more time they could explain etc etc, and we learned nothing. We were lucky though that it was only half an hour away from us.

I personally wouldn't advise anyone to go, you find out tons more info off BRITISH EXPATS.

Hi again,

Does anyone know if there is a UK contact number for this Expo. I have looked on their website a few times and only contact details I can find is Sydney! I have emailed them and no reply!

For us it's not just the tickets to get in - but my partners leave from work (he's in Management so can't just take off leave for the sake of it), also petrol from Devon & return, hotel, food, trains, weekend expenses. Seriously - if it is as bad as you are all saying we will be fuming!!!

Never mind asking for your money back - I'll be asking them to re-imburse the costs for our wasted weekend and trip from Devon over 200miles away!

Been seriously contemplating just cancelling the hotel etc as least then the only loss will be the tickets for the Expo.

I signed up for the newsletter when I bought the tickets. So far I've received two & they are identical. Not a lot of information in them either.... I have to say I'm not filled with confidence, especially since I've got the prospect of dragging 2 kids along who don't want to go anyway

On the other hand, OH knows an Iranian restaurant nearby that's meant to be the pooch's privates

Total waste of time and money IMO. The stalls and level of information provided would only be for those who are in the very, very early stages of thinking about emigrating.

We are going in 7 weeks time so were hoping to develop some potential work contacts for my hubby. There was only one potential job to apply for him and it was in Sydney - we are moving to Brisbane in 7 weeks time.

Ho hum.

Hi there

We have just come back from Leeds, it wasn't very good at all, like people have already stated all the information you could need is on here.

One woman we spoke to was absolutely useless and I ended up telling her how things worked regarding visa's not visa versa, how the hell she managed to get that job I do not know.

But saying that another woman who was on the WA stand gave us some information regarding another way in, which we haven't even considered, so that might be useful we will have to wait and see.

The other half managed to hand in one CV, we got told that they are crying out for construction workers in his line of construction and IF he had a visa he would not find trouble getting a job! But we already flipping knew that. We just need to find a way to get a bloody visa first!

One last thing, we met a bloke there who said that he had been to the London Expo and that it was much better because they had more recruitment agencies.
So I suppose it all depends what you personally are hoping to get out of the Expo. Good luck.

All the best Gilly.

Hi there,

Over and above the Entrance Fee of £12.50 each to get into the Expo - do you have to pay EXTRA to a Seminar? If so, how much?
We would be interested in listening to a talk on Adelaide - I read somewhere that you have to pay extra for that! Is this true?

We are in the same position - we are travelling from Lincolnshire and ok we don't have to pay for accommodation as staying with family on Friday night in Hants, but we will be forking out for train tickets which aren't cheap.

If it is dire I will be contacting them and stating I want my money back, but that is the last resort. I'm looking at going with an open mind and hopefully we will gain something from it especially as hubby and I know squat diddly do about Oz and by the time we go I'll be a qualified RGN so hopefully I'll get some good advice re getting a job. Not sure if it will be benifical for hubby as he's in the forces and hoping to transfer over once his sentence is up here but he's also looking to see what government jobs they have which could be a good possibility.

Try and keep an open mind about it and just see what happens - it's a bit of a gamble but you'd kick yourself if you didn't go and they had some advice to offer which you didn't know about. Like everything in life it's a gamble
