I'm afraid Margaret River is just way to expensive for what is on offer. Same could be said for most of WA.
Having lived in France there is little if any comparison to be made. A country that has most everything within reach. From great beaches, mountains, ski slopes (though expensive) with great presentation to match. Houses a lot cheaper as well.
Never been to Iceland, a place always wanted to go. Living in UK sure avails one to so much possibility to travel.

Ridden through decades ago(maybe it's changed) back then you need six fingers and two heads to live there.

All this close to Europe stuff aint what it's cracked up to be. Besides, them places is full of foreigners and bloomin millions of them.
Anyhoos I can get a croissant in me local supermarket if I want one and a German sausage across the road. Have you ever crossed the road for a German sausage missus?

One thing WA has you can't buy though, and it could be viewed as a plus for some at least, especially if your travelling and camping for free.... Lack of people.
Novelty would wear off fairly quickly I reckon, but probably worth experiencing until it does.

Novelty of lack of people does wear a little thin. Although I take your point for those coming from crowded holiday areas in their own country the change may well be welcome.
Still plenty of camp sites are full here in summer as well in the popular towns. Neither is it possible to pitch a tent or sleep in a camper van in many locations as not legal.

Last year we went overseas as a family 3 times and a further 2 times with just my OH, all to very interesting and lovely places, if you look you can get some excellent deals so you really don't have to be well off to travel here, (It use to cost us a small fortune in Aus lol) one of the best parts of being in Europe

Australia is a prohibitive place to travel from, especially with young children and the long haul flights and jet lag. When I lived in London the world was on the doorstep - now I struggle to find varied interesting things for them to do here.

If you put in Google "distance UK to Australia" it says 9,443 miles.

I think in this day and age of modern travel, people feel like the world is smaller than it really is. We get lulled into a false sense of proximity... "only 24 hours on a plane". Trouble is, that 24 hours takes a year off your life!
