Australia through to Final!!

this should bolster England against France, as they psychologically have been matched with New Zealand all along..

Aussie have now won 12 World Cup games on the trot - not having lost since 1995! (They were beaten by England).

We'll never hear the bloody end of this. Can't wait to see the press tomorrow.

Win or lose, us poms are in for yet more gip.

Ride the storm..

Re: Australia through to Final!!

For any Pom meeting a crowing Aussie, DEFLECT the scorn by rubbishng the All Blacks - join in, eh?

If England got through to the final and then lost, well then we would never hear the end of it.

On arriving in Australia, I can say - well, it's why i left England.

Look on the bright side, there would be nothing better than beating the Aussies in the final. England may have been a little below par of late but we've still won all our games by more than ten points. And it's still the same team that has dominated world rugby over the last 12 months.

Two wins and we'll have something to crow about for a while.

:) :) :)

GetMeOutOfHere Nov 14th 2003 10:56 pm

I was gutted to see how NZ just choked!!

Straight from the off, they just were going at it like a normal game, not the Semi-final of the World Cup.

The Aussies were up for it, and credit were its do, they were playing with determination and grit. England won;t have a better chance to win it now, but the French have peaked at the right time, so should be great game.

But as for the Kiwis, wouldn't want to be there when they get back to NZ:scared:

Badge Nov 14th 2003 11:02 pm

NZ now have the title of chokers BIG TIME.

(More so than England, I would say). ;-)

I will be supporting the England TEAM as I have been watching them all my life - but if Australia win, I'll be happy for my new COUNTRY.

I couldn't believe how psyched up the Wallabies were fo this match. They played amazingly well and I think (grudgingly) we have to give them the credit for stopping NZ from getting in thier stride.

I hope we stuff the french because if we do our next door neighbour is having a final party and although I'll be supporting England all the way I'm still gonna go round in my Wallabies shirt and wind a few people up!!

:)

plumber39 Nov 14th 2003 11:41 pm

I agree , we must beat those surrender monkey's convincingly tomorrow too have any chance of putting the ozzie's to the sword!.

The plumber, and yes we did kill Joan of Arc, oh and poison Napoleon on the Island of Alder!

I have to say that although I don't really care that much for sport I most definitely want England to beat France and then beat the Wallabies.
Just so I can gloat at work.
The guys in the office are always prepared to gloat when England have been beaten at something by Aus. Usually they just get blank stares from me because I was not even aware that whatever match they are talking about was even going on - that tends to piss them off.
:D
But for the Rugby I made the mistake early on of mentioning that I thought England could win the cup and have had to put up with some stick. If we beat them I will be dragging it up in conversation for months.

WBB Nov 15th 2003 12:27 am

in a weird sort of way i hope england win the final, at least then the welsh can say they were beaten by the champions.

:D

Paul&Ann-Marie Nov 15th 2003 12:28 am

No win situation, england win and you get resented.
Aus win and you get crucified.

Paul.

It's stuffing the Frogs that matters now. To put people in the mood go to www.google.co.uk and type in 'French military victories' in the search box. Then click on 'I'm feeling lucky' and go on from there. Tis most amusing.

:) :) :)

Kenand Nel Nov 15th 2003 12:34 am

Please God, let it be France to win the World Cup.

There is only one thing worse than a gloating Australian and that is a gloating Englishman.
Oh and France have been very impressive all the way through...

Allez France!!!!!

Kentish Man Nov 15th 2003 12:38 am

Were Scotland in the World Cup?

I actually sat and watched the whole game and I really arent into sport. I was gutted when NZ lost, sent a text msg to the hubby who is out playing golf with the final score.

Loopy Nov 15th 2003 1:04 am

Go the Wallabies!

Would really like Oz & England to be in the final then we're in a win/win situation. Newhome/oldhome. Was on the edge of my seat all the way through & hoarse by the end. That cute blonde Wallaby, what was his name again?????

Loopy

Badge Nov 15th 2003 1:08 am

Rogers? played 15

Waugh? played 1-3

Larkham played 10

are the blond ones that spring to mind. Waugh's a prop; Rogers (ex NRL Sharkies player) a utility back. Both have long hair.

Think he's called Matt, would that be Matt Rogers?

Loops

Badge Nov 15th 2003 1:35 am

sorry, yes.

Matt Rogers is one of the ex Rugby League stars that played in the back three (Wendall Sailor and Lote Tuquiri are the wingers). He first played for Australia in 2002.

His autobiography is called on "On a Wing and a Prayer".

He also kicks goals!

That was the Wallabies' cup final for me - they beat NZ. Yeah, can never relax during their encounters. Will just enjoy tomorrow's game, next week is just the bonus.

scotvness Nov 15th 2003 4:05 am

I told you - watch out for the Ref!

Now that NZ have been knocked out it looks like that ever so slightly bias Kiwi ref' who done Australia just a few favours (not that they needed them) against Scotland, will now be directing traffic in the final - Best of luck to either France or England - they will need it. :scared:

tinaj Nov 15th 2003 4:26 am

Great news for me we are having a sweepstake at work only me and 1 other chose Aus to win and I think my score prediction was closer, I could be on to some money on Monday.

jandjuk Nov 15th 2003 6:38 am

[fingers in ears] ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya ya

I can't hear you!

Didn't happen..... didn't happen.... couldn't have..... please tell me it was all a bad dream....

It's only Friday isn't - the game is really tomorrow morning isn't it?

And tomorrow NZ will not choke - they will not get undone by another team playing 'mistake free keep the ball and have a wall of defence' style of rugby. Not rocket science.

Tomorrow NZ will not get psyched out by a team who's played a blinder mind game all year.... surely not....

Tomorrow NZ won't look like a possum caught in the headlights....

Please someone tell me it was all a bad dream

muppetking Nov 15th 2003 10:30 am

Let the inquest begin.
This is one in the eye for the Kiwi press/public who have done nothing but talk about the final as a formality rather than possibility. Anyone who thinks the best team lost is deluding themselves. They had their opportunity and were found wanting, end of story. The headlines were 'Semi Gods' now they read 'World Chumps'! Such is the arrogance. I have little sympathy for them.
The Team management and coach have been obstructive and introverted and simply upset the media on a big scale.
Shame on those in NZ who are now criticising the team selections. What goes around comes around. But not for another 4 years!;)

BritboyNZ Nov 15th 2003 11:02 am

There were some very upset people in Auckland last night!!! Anyone wearing gold & green would be Very lucky if they made it home in one piece! Muppet has it right though, the kiwis have been so damn arrogant throughout the WC they almost deserved to be taken down a peg or two.

COME ON ENGLAND!!

Badge Nov 15th 2003 6:04 pm

and they have the cheek to say England are arrogant - the least arrogant team I have seen in a long while..

I'm scared of a France-Australia final

1) same as last year
2) If France win, the NH will never hear the end of it..and they will be jammy sods..
3) if aussie win, that's 3 times..and EVERYONE will never hear the end of it...

Everyone here is expecting/desperate for France to do England. Or the 'pommy wankers' as they are affectionately known on the radio and Star Sunday Times. Clearly they feel culturally close to France! Is it any wonder I am glad they lost? When Marty Devlin can start an interview with the following comment.....'Why is it we all hate England (the team) and let's face it the English' then I can only smirk......at least until we are knocked out. Sky TV coverage includes such topical items such as why England are "despised". Can you imagine that in a serious English newspaper, describing the Wallabies or ABs? I think not. Martin and boys....time to deliver.:)

Kentish Man Nov 15th 2003 10:00 pm

Bring on the Aussies!! They won't be smiling next week although doubtless they'll blame their defeat on luck, cheating, England not playing the game the way it should be played etc etc. Hope the Aussies polish up the trophy before handing it over to Johnno.

I seem to remember some tit on this forum crowing about having a hundred quid on France beating England??

:D :D :D :D

tinaj Nov 15th 2003 10:23 pm

Yeah we have done it through to the final!!!!

I can't wait until tomoorow I work with 5 Kiwis and 4 Froggies. They will be sick as Dogs ha ha ha. Plus I should be onto winning the sweep stakes if I am lucky- shame I can't remember what score I put.

BritboyNZ Nov 16th 2003 12:17 am

Yep I cant wait either.....i work in an office full of kiwis who have constantly put england down and crowed about All Black superiority (huh). I am going to have a *great* day tmw :D :D

What a game eh. The french kicker was bloody useless lolol

must get to bed, 2am here. All that beer is not going to help!!!!

Great, the 2 teams I dislike the most in world rugby through to the final. How crap were France & NZ, let me down again.
Who to support?. Although I don't like England much, I despise the Wallabies, So reluctantly, I'm going for England. Good luck to them.

I'm stifling a yawn.. :)
You can't be that hard up ... can I make a suggestion being in the same dilemma as you "who to support" - support the team who "tries" and runs with the ball

it's tough one isn't it.. but if last nights match is anything to go by... wake me up when it's all over when they've finished booting over penalty goals instead of tries.. yawn

cheers:)

That chip on your shoulder must really get you down! If you knew your rugby WC history you would know that kickers and a solid defence win world cups. Not Super 12 all singing all dancing backlines as imagined by the Kiwi public. Look back on the finals of all the previous cups and check the number of tries. Wales might have entertained but they came to win a WC and failed. Your tireless dismissal and utter disdain for all things English wears thin after a while. Elton Flatley kicked all the Wallaby points and they scored an intercept try from a poor pass. And yet you would have it that they 'tried to score tries'! Don't they all? If France had won I would support them wholeheartedly because we share a close and long history as well as the Northern hemisphere connection. Shame you don't feel the same.

Badge Nov 16th 2003 8:40 pm

hear hear (Sorry Ceri!)

In 1991, England in the last England-Aussie final England attempted to run the ball. They lost and were castigated for it.

England are quite capable of scoring tries - look at any game 2000-2003. Except maybe France 2000, NZ 2003. The minority.

They even scored a few against Australia in June. But they will be careful this time.

Stick to soccer Ceri. You get lots of 'chances' (most of them blown) - I believe that is the word they use in soccer circles - in that game to score goals so that you can tun around taking off your shirt, acting like a spoilt, Oscar winning, overpaid, puny, overgrown educationally subnormal schoolboy.

Come to think of it, often not a single goal is scored in an entire game. How 'boring' is that?

Bollocks, It's about winning. In tight tense games like cup finals, where the loser gets nothing, winning by any means is all that matters. If that means kicking penalties & drops, then so be it.

well sure, if you want to limit the fanbase and global reach of the game - then that's fine....

I agree with Ceri - see the other sweet chariot thread for my reasons...

You've got a valid point, but on cup final day, winning by any means is all that matters.

PeteY Nov 17th 2003 7:31 am

So everyone.. what do we think will be better for the rugby fanbase?

England playing for tries and loosing...coming home saying that the played beautifully and "proper" rugby (after the Aussies won on kicked points too.....)

OR

England playing the dogged kicking game and possibly coming home with a trophy.

I know which i would prefer......
