Some really informative posts on here...many thanks.
So can I ask, if i am going over on a PR visa but do not have a job what are the chance of getting a mortgage? Would I need to wait until i had a job and had been working for several months?
The reason i ask is that i am a secondary teacher and have been advised that often you have to do long term supply work before you can get a permanent post (apparently they do not rate your experience in the UK so want to see what the OZ schools think of you first before offering you anything permanent
)
This can sometimes take over a year and i really would like to buy something when i get over there if i can. Any advice would be great

Hi All
Just a quick question about length of mortgage. I'm assuming that it can only run until I'm 65, the same as here in Ireland. (I never owned my own home in UK so don't know if it's the same there- main reason for moving to Ireland, oh woe is me- a poor British nurse!!!
)
So anyway, I'll be around 42-43 before we move to Oz (I do wish OH would make his mind up!:curse
. The mortgage will be in my name only, so I'll only be able to get one that will run for 22ish years. Correct or not?
We will not be moving to Perth as I wouldn't be able to afford property there, probably South Australia, but not necessarily Adelaide.
Thanks
Moira
