That article may be on the mark with regards to the ice, but I seriously doubt the ecstacy bit is right.

Considering that Australia's entire population is less than most American cities (where you will find more drug abuse than you could throw a dog at), I find it difficult to take this article seriously.

I also notice that the difference between Australia and Britain's alleged use of the drug is a mere 1.4% - which is not even statistically significant.

On the basis of those figures, it would be true to say that Britain and Australia are the combined drug capitals of the world.

In any case, this thread does not belong in this forum, which is about Australian lifestyle and culture.

but the report states that Australia intake is nearly double the UK. What is that saying about Statistics :rolleyes: :D

You have read the article wrong Vash.

It states that 3.4% of the australian Population use ecstacy as a opposed to 2% of teh UK population.

That is at least 75% more...so not far off double.

No censorship, but I'm sure we're all (on either side of the fence) clear on the reasons this thread exists.

No-one's saying Australia is the land of milk-and-honey, but stories like the one posted above are designed purely to cast the country in a bad light by people with a very specific anti-Australian viewpoint. I mean, does the OP know somebody affected by ecstacy abuse? Do the junkies line their street queueing up at the crack house three doors down? Or did they just think - 'Here's a brilliant negative story, we really hate it here and we think everyone else will too, so let's post it'

What it actually says to me is "You folks thinking of moving to Australia are too thick to realise it's not utopia and it needs to be pointed out to you as if you were primary school age children." It's as insulting as it is transparent and if I had the mental-capacity of a guinea pig I'd be posting similar stories about the UK in the Moving back section using the same facile justification.

There are threads on here every day slagging off some aspect of UK society...is that OK then?

Is it alright for some posters to give a consistently 'glossed up' version of life in Australia?

This is supposed to be about discussion...not propaganda.

For every poster who posts something negative about Australia we have self-appointed spin doctors such as Vash who have a life subscription to Google to counter it. Are their posts OK then?

Actually hutch I could show you a very interesting apartment block nicknamed "the last resort" its set amongst the luxury units and apartments in the very up market expensive beachside area where we are renting . So yes we do have junkies in our street, but name one area of australia or UK that wouldnt have them somewhere, at least we know where they are and so do the cops. Holidays to St Kilda, inner city melbourne and sydney have had me far more concerned.

You feel fine to use the australia and UK forum for your 'godforsaken UK hole posts ". At least my post is about the forum country we live in, I also have 3 teenage or near teenage kids, very relavant I would think parenting with eyes wide open works much better than head in sand.

If people know all this goes on here too, theres no reason on earth why we cant discuss it instead of being offeneded by it and having double standards that its OK to post the same type of info on the UK.

Yes, Vash's posts are okay - because 9 times out of 10 - they're merely a response to posts like the one above; as you know, the vast majority of things he says about the UK are positive.

Time and again you, jad-n-rich, mikestanton, eatstatic, arkon and the other members of the anti-Australia brigade make posts like this and then get all huffy when someone points out it's either the same or worse in the UK. You say that we consistently present a 'glossed-up' view of Australia, but since you and the crew consistently present a 'beirut-in-the-sun' view of Australia we can at least make the defence that we're trying to balance the debate.

The overwhelming majority of posts you mention 'slagging off' UK society usually appear half way down the page on a thread like this one - and so, in that spirit, here's a great story from the Daily Mirror printed two days ago. In the interest of debate (obviously :rolleyes: ) would you rather have kids blissed out on an 'E' or snorting lines of coke in the playground?
