Only a couple of week till deadline day.

For the first assessment you have to do it the manual way. After that you use your first notice of assessment as the proof of id which the program will ask for.

The program is excellent for those with simple tax affairs. I have used it twice and recieved my refund within a week.

Not sure this is correct. I have just completed and submitted my first return using e-tax, and didn’t have to do anything manually.

What did you put in when it asks for the number on a previous notice of assessment?

Didn't need to put anything in. Perhaps they have changed it recently.

Nope you are correct.

http://www.ato.gov.au/individuals/co...age=1#P40_1128

If you:
Lodged a tax return for any of the previous 5 years (1998 – 2002), or
Lodged a refund of imputation credits application for any of the previous 2 years (2001 or 2002), or
Lodged a baby bonus claim for 2002
You will need any of the notices of assessment from these years provided it issued before 1 June 2003.

If you have not lodged a tax return before you will need your tax file number. Your tax file number must have been notified to you before 1 June 2003.

Thought I was going to have to pay them back the refund there for a minute!
