Anyone seen "Chopper" with Eric Bana(hulk/troy) in it before he was famous.
Based on a true story??

I loved 'The Dish'.

Can't nominate a 'worst' movie, as it is a well known fact that Aussies are genetically incapable of making bad ones :)

Anya.

Favourites: The Dish, The Castle, Two Hands (Heath Ledger...mmm), Romper Stomper, Chopper, Rabbit Proof Fence, The Nugget (classic), Looking for Alibrandi, Ned Kelly, Shine, Man from Snowy River..............

Least favourites: that one with Kylie in it and lots of drug taking (Sample People, I think)

Hi all,
Muriels wedding, Strictly ballroom, The Heartbreak kid, great Aussie films.

I'm sure there are loads of dodgy ones but none that I can recall except maybe Pricsilla Queen of the Desert or something like that!

Cheers
Ady :D

Re: Aussie films

What was that film about a group of school girls from a private school, that went missing while picnicking at some rocks, set at the turn of the century and based on a true story (I think). Some where never seen again and some turned up days later unable to remember where they had been or what had happen to the others.

Then there is Muriel’s Wedding and Strictly Ballroom :D

Best - Gallipolli
Worst - Idiot Box.

We had a chat about 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' while back and apparently despite touted about as being a true story, it's completely made up.

Hell, I just replied to this, at length, then pressed the wrong button. Nothing to do with red wine........at all.....
Anyway, what I was saying before my errant fingers rudely interrupted was -

does anyone remember Tim - a very early Mel film. He played a young guy with learning difficulties who has a relationship with the woman he is odd jobbing ('scuse me) for. I fell in love with him at this point. My love was hightened by the first two Max Max films (the second one was on the telly in the last few weeks yum yum Mel).
The Castle, Chopper (humour value only), Strictly ballroom and pleeeease no one diss Priscilla, if only for Guy Pearce's buttocks in that extremely fetching cutaway number he walks up onto the top of King's Canyon in.

OMG if I'd known I'd have taped it. Did you watch, I'm sure it's crap really, but the eye candy is great! Actually, I think Mel's acting is a bit dubious in it, ouch that hurts.

I didn't - I work from home and the reason I remember is because my wife was off sick from work last Wednesday and she watched it - she did say that Mel look *really* young - seduced by an older woman or summat like that!!

I remember 'Tim'.

As for the Kylie film - it was definitely Sample People:

http://www.loaded247.co.uk/index.php?s=2&id=7929

And I quote from one review:

'Want to see Kylie as a sex-mad, gun-toting, coke-snorting hooker?'

Now watch the men flock to buy it ;)

Re: Aussie films

Some of my favorite Aussie movies are:

Romper Stomper
The Sum of Us
Man from Snowy River
Silver Brumby
Storm Boy
Puberty Blues
Bangkok Hilton(Mini Series on TV)
Dons Party
Breaker Morant
Under the Lighthouse Dancing.

There are probably loads more...but these are just off the top of my head.

Cant actually think of any I didnt particularly like.....

MrsDagboy Nov 16th 2004 9:10 pm

Re: Aussie films

The Silver Brumby has some of the most stunning scenery & cinematography that Ive seen in a film. Fabulous film!

Forgot Muriels wedding in my list. As for Guy, best looking bloke dressed as a sheila Ive ever seen! ;) :D

Re: Aussie films

My best Aussie FIlm - "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert"

My Worst Aussie Film - "Warming Up"..... a very "80's" film about a ballet teacher that teaches an amateur Aussie Rules Football Team to do ballet so they can get super fit and win all the time...... it is one of those films that is so bad you just have to watch it!!!! LOL

Brissiegirl Nov 16th 2004 9:24 pm

Re: Aussie films

The Dish, The Castle, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Heartbreak Kid, Dead Calm, Love and Other Catastrophes, Mad Max (first film only), Muriels Wedding, Spotswood, sum of us...

Razorback was an interesting little film...and so was Long Weekend.. both horror flims of sorts...

l was'nt that bad, well it was one of my first films.
My favourite Aussie film was Gallipoli, the ending of the film was really well done when they go over the top of the trench and everyone is machine gunned to death, with the star of the film Archie Hamilton machine gunned last. It was one of the best and most realistic war films ever made.

One of the best of recent years has to be, "The Dish"!

The bit where the school band are supposed to play the US National Anthem, for the US ambassador, and promptly launch into a perfect rendition of the Hawaii 50 theme,
http://www.angelfire.com/film/jonnys...O/hawaii5o.htm is a piece of class!!
Fantastic stuff!!! :D

Cheers.... John....

'You bullshitted NASA' - gets me every time! Love the bit with the anthem too. We went to see it at the cinema here in Cambridge and I honestly think Mr B and I were the only two who got it. We were crying with laughter!

We took the DVD to my parents last year and my dad watched it three times in a row...the DVD is even better because of all the extra stuff about the moon landing. Really interesting.

Have you seen The Nugget (Eric Bana)? Same humour as The Dish and The Castle.

I'd forgotten about Dead Calm - still scary after 5 or 6 viewings. Razorback - was that the one about the giant rampaging pig?
