Re: Asian Boom Down Under
[QUOTE=Carruss]We watched the series on Ch4, I think it was called 'No Going Back' and there was a Welsh family on it one week. They moved to Perth and in to, what seemed like a Welsh Community. They went around the neighbours (Welsh) for a barbeque where they were introduced to even more people (Welsh) and we could not believe what we were watching. They had their Welsh flags flying on the poles outside their homes etc.
We are looking forward to the different way of life and hope to settle in to the Australian way of life etc. Yes I remember that one, I think it was Melbourne though and the chap posts on here very now and then. Very patriotic indeed! |

So their solution is to become an immigrant in a country of immigrants! :D Oh, and in answer to the OP. Its only natural, as Oz is part of Asia (not Europe), once the artificial immigration boundaries to asians were withdrawn, the influx of asians would far exceed those of europeans. It will continue to do so. It adds to the diversity, and the skill pool of the country and I see no problem with it, provided everyone who comes here is commited to being australian, and doesn't try to import the problems and bigotry from their homelands here. Melbournians have experienced imported gangland warfare. Cheers, JTL |

Cheers, JTL think you missed my point but it doesnt really matter. personally, i couldnt care less about colour or creed. but a country that will only let you through its doors if you can support yourself and your family - now there is where the differences lie. |
Re: Asian Boom Down Under
I seem to remember the local australians in the street kicking up a fuss and asking them to either take their flags down or at least put the Australian ones up instead!
Integration is the name of the game and not excluding yourself from the rest of the australian population. |

yeah, too bloody right actually!!!! Wait till you see what your massive tax bill gets spent on here  Tonights little snippet I saw on 'A current affair'. Kids are legally allowed to leave home in QLD at 14, and Centerlink will pay them $320 a fortnight for accomodation. Hows that for good use of taxpayers money. Your kids can start blackmailing you at 14 saying they don't like your rules so they are leaving, and then they'll use YOUR tax money to pay them for accomodation. Insane. But at least its not illegal immigrants. Thank god for that  Cheers, JTL |

Unfortunately their website doesn't print every story they cover, but trust me, it was on the prog, and its true across most states, though it varies from state to state (some have 15 years old as the age they are allowed to leave). They also said that in theory, the child had to prove they could support themselves, but this is never enforced. The link above will direct you to an email address if you want to ask aca, also you could check out the centerlink and child safety agency websites. They both refused to take part in the programme, I'd guess because they know its an unjustifiable situation. Cheers, JTL |
