Due to an administrative error on my part I leave England and fly into Brisbane on the 21st July (first day of the first Ashes test) thereby missing all chance to watch any of the cricket live (and I had tickets for Old Trafford, d'oh).
Anyway, probably a silly question but, will I be able to watch the Test's on terrestrial TV in Oz, preferable in a pub...with a pint?
Yes you can watch the tests and one dayers on free to air tv. SBS has the tests and channel 7 have the one dayers. Foxtel also has the rights to both.

So yes you will be able to drown your sorrows at the pub as Gilly belts yet another ton.

Well, I'm half Aussie/half Welsh so I'll be backing the Aussies (less heartache with more chance to celebrate) while hoping Jones has a good game and that they bring Crofty back to fold!

Which Jones? Both are Welsh, even if one was born in PNG.

No, he's not in the same class as the three you've mentioned, even if two of them are off-spinners and don't really make an apt comparison.

He averages 28.81 in Tests, which is better than any current English spinner (or spinner from a lot of countries). He took 53 wickets in 11 Tests while Warne was banned. Yes, he goes for a boundary an over, but he's a wicket-taker and that's what wins matches.

He acquitted himself fairly well 2002, 2003 and 2004 in County cricket.

In short, he'd probably be a walk-in in most nations Test teams. I know England would kill for a leggie like MacGill, considering the only thing they've had in recent years is Salisbury and he was a Test non-event.

Well, I guess Simon and Geraint, not sure how much time Simon is going to spend in the first eleven though.

As regards MacGill, he's not Warne it's true but who else is (other than Warne!), if not for his blond haired compatriot he may have gone onto to greater things internationally - still a world class leggie in my opinion.

Jones, SP should spend a lot of time in the first 11 IMHO, The trouble is, how much will Vaughan bowl him? Totally underbowled him in SA.

The Aussies will walk it (thats my confident prediction ), and if a certain Mr Warne should be reading this thread and would like to send me a pm, he can have my mobile number any time..........

My point is that they were "world class" spinners and Macgill is not - the facts is, that there is a shortage of decent spinners in the game throughout the world. Just because he would be selected as a spinner for most test teams due to a lack of other spinners available does not make him world class it just means he's the best of the rest!!!! - In your own words he acquitted himself fairly well in county cricket, if he's world class that competition should be a breeze but i dont remember him being in the leading wicket takers last year?????

He's just take a five for against the Ozzies in a weakened attack which is no mean feat.
Imagine if he got to bowl with McGrath/Gillespie excerting pressure at the other end and had Gillie behind the stumps?

Stuart Law has now qualified to play for England. Could be interesting if he gets a call-up. On the other side Andrew Symonds rejected a chance a few years ago to play for England.
