Applying for UK passport for Australia born baby.

Re: Applying for UK passport for Australia born baby - an extra question
If you were born in the U.K., yes, child will be British.
Baby would also be Dutch - may come in useful if (or when) the recession leads to immigration control coming back in Europe.
Have either or both of you thought about becoming Australian citizens?
Note that it is strongly advisable for children born in Australia to PR parents to have their own citizenship certificate:

From this thread it seems that any child born when both parents have Australian Permanent Residency will be considered an Australian Citizen.. is this right? Or am I beind thick?
It just seems odd that the child may be an Aussie, but we have to wait another 8 months till we are eligible...
Thanks

And one parent as PR is enough (there are cases where one parent is PR and the other is temporary, or even illegal). Parent must be PR at the time child is born, not later.

heres a thick question
if you have a baby in au parents are temp visa - then the baby is also temp
what happens if after 3 months the parents then get pr ? is the baby because of birth able to be a citzen ? or will she/he only be pr too?

And only a PR if parents have ensured that child is included on PR application.
If child stays in Australia until age 10, and is not already a citizen by then, then child becomes Australian on 10th birthday.

thats what i thought
its amazing how many aussie people think that because baby is born in au - that he/she will be citzen
especially if parents then get pr - they really dont understand why the baby is not a citzen when he/she was born here and parents now have pr

Re: Applying for UK passport for Australia born baby.
Hi there.
I was not born in the UK, but lived there for a fairly long time, obtaining my permanent residence and passport before finally coming to Australia (my wife is Aussie).
We have recently had a little boy, and I'd like him to have a British passport.
I have called the consulate in Canberra (who charged me 10 bucks to read word for word from their website).
My questions are, having not been born in the UK, but having the passport is my son eligible for a UK passport, and do I need to register his birth with any UK authority? If so, how do I go about doing so?
Thanks for your help.

Children will also need Australian passports and citizenship certificates.

Usually yes, but there might be complications if both parents are British by descent:
