Three months on I've still got two drawers in my bedroom with bags in that I've not emptied

On that note are we allowed to take clothes washing powders etc, we have some left over but thought I wouldn't be allowed to pack them. Good idea about putting smalls into pillow cases, did they rummage through to check it before packing or just threw it in the box? |

I wish I could take the wedding album in hand luggage but it is too big and with the current situation at UK airports I am not sure where it would end up :scared: I am sure our photographer keeps the films for a long time, and seeing as we only got married last year I think he will have them. We can still order images off his internet page so I guess it will be okay. We are listing it on our insurance so fingers crossed. I think I just have to relax over the whole thing, I can't do anything about it so once I have done my lists (will take me ages, I am a primary school teacher so the amount of books I have is ridiculous) I will just have to go with the flow. :) I just have images of some big Aussie trying on my wedding dress!! :scared: |
Re: Anything go missing from packing to unpacking?
One thing I noticed was that some boxes I had already packed and expected them to unpack and put them in their own boxes but they didn't - they just wrapped their own tape around them and called them what I had:
These included: Books CD's DVD's Videos Star Wars and James Bond memorabilia (sad I know!) I'd pacekd them up to clear the house for selling and they just left them as they were - we used Crown. I know you're not meant to pack anything as it voids the insurance but just ask the packers when they arrive. Ours were so lovely and helpful and basically did what we wanted them to!!! - just make sure you supply the teas / coffees and cakes/biscuits! |

It might be worth scanning your wedding photos and taking them on a CD. Just as back up as well. :) |

The fact that you are not taking much stuff I would defo write a comprehensive list of stuff, cos you cant remember everything u took. I also bought loads of Vacuum bags...they were superb for bedding etc and saved a hell of a room. I also put my photograph albums in them, since customs could see through the bag it was not opened. You could even do this with ur undies cos once u have sooked all the air out u wouldnt know what was in the bag....try not to panic all will be fine...................theres thousands of people bringing stuff into the country and have no bother....we were just unlucky
Thanks for the tips, really helpful. Will def insist on bike boxes and I think I will be out shopping tomorrow for some vacuum packing bags. Puts my mind at rest a little bit :) |
Re: Anything go missing from packing to unpacking?
I would REPORT IT to the shipping company in a letter. If they aren't informed of these things then they don't know it is happening. And hopefully the more these things are reported then more can be done about it. Maybe they'll find a pattern of the things dissappearing when certain people have packed or unpacked stuff. But sometimes things can go missing at Customs or during storage.

I've had loads - but only little things like..... 1) cheap kitchen scales 2) lots of little stationery items such as stapler. 3) DVD/CD writer pens 4) kitchen timer 5) Childs splash mats It's only really little things and can't be bothered to try and claim or anything - and how can I prove anything anyway - but a bit narked as it would appear either been swiped by UK packers or by Oz unpackers. I can't believe it was UK packers as they seemed really lovely but obviously as only had 1/2 day with the Oz unpackers as opposed to 2 days with the UK packers I don't really know whether to say anything over here. There is a chance the stationery items were so small and at a bottom of a box that when the oz guys unpacked these they didn't realise there was more stuff at the bottom of the boxes with all teh wrapping paper they use but I unpacked all the kitchen stuff so where is it!!!!! Anyone else found this? |

We complained and they said to speak to the insurers it's nothing to do with them. |
