Not in Perth it's not, it's crap and overpriced. The only decent curry in Perth is the stuff I make.

We were talking to aussie mates about the great real indian curry shop we had tried.

Anyway aussie mates are nahh wouldnt go there we do a great curry you have to try it.

We took up the offer and was presented with chopped up sausages and diced BBQ steak in a sweet mild sauce I suspect was a jar of maggi curry tonight

Being polite say ohh yummy whats it called ? Steak and snag curry was the reply

Because we're a lot of muppets on here, the self opinionated soap box mob that we are.

We usually pay more than $20 in Perth and it tastes much better if you make your own for half the price (or less). A few samples of menus:

http://www.theturban.com.au/-The-Turban-Dine-In-.html

I have never had a curry in Perth that matches Patak, Sharwood or any recipes in my Indian cooking books. Same goes for any bread or any other side dish or dessert.

If Sydney or Melbourne (or wherever you live) does better curries than the UK, then you are indeed blessed.

9 Marys in the City is nice but hell it is expensive. Other than that, everything else is average. Although I wasn't fond of the shite served in the UK either, hardly authentic.

mum and dad had a fish and chip shop in England for years ...they made a great living.......... is was due to repeat business from the locals and the items they sold with high mark up eg) chips ,dabs ,fish cakes , and patties etc which were all homemade . They sold alot of fish ......... stick to local fish.....local fish cooked well in english batter is a definite winner.

This place in Melbourne does one of the best curries around and a take away main is about $16. They've been around for well over 20 years and the repeat business speaks for itself. It blows away anything I've had in the UK (and I've had a lot in the UK!).

I tried 9 Marys and Chutney Mary's and didn't enjoy them. Maybe it's a regional thing. We're from Manchester and find that the curry at Anghiti in Padbury or Innaloo are closest you will get to back home.

Having said that, the tandoori dishes at the "Mary" restaurants were very good.

A sfor authentic, well it's all been developed for a western palate, be it Aussie/Kiwi/UK?USA. We all like it different. I prefer UK, coz that is what I was reared on.

If we ever get around to using up some frequent flyer points to get to Melbourne*, then we'll put that on our list of places to visit. You can see that the mains, even eating in, are $6-8 per dish cheaper than most Indians in Perth. As you've read a lot of us saying, Perth is expensive in all sorts of ways.

* Have rabid WCE supporter OH, so he tends to be a bit anti-Victorian, but he's talking about us taking the kids to see snow.

One of the best UK curries I had was at the Kushoom Koly in Heaton Moor.
