I beg to differ.
Having eaten curries extensively in the UK and Australia, The Australian ones kick the UK's arse. I never pay more than $20.

Apologies. I obviously misunderstood this part of the OP's post. Which, of course, was his first post on registering. Advertising his business in a very (un)subtle way. And nobody slagged him for it, they gave their opinions.
Because we're a lot of muppets on here, the self opinionated soap box mob that we are.
**** it. I'm over being nice.

I have never had a curry in Perth that matches Patak, Sharwood or any recipes in my Indian cooking books. Same goes for any bread or any other side dish or dessert.
If Sydney or Melbourne (or wherever you live) does better curries than the UK, then you are indeed blessed.

9 Marys in the City is nice but hell it is expensive. Other than that, everything else is average. Although I wasn't fond of the shite served in the UK either, hardly authentic.

mum and dad had a fish and chip shop in England for years ...they made a great living.......... is was due to repeat business from the locals and the items they sold with high mark up eg) chips ,dabs ,fish cakes , and patties etc which were all homemade . They sold alot of fish ......... stick to local fish.....local fish cooked well in english batter is a definite winner.

We usually pay more than $20 in Perth and it tastes much better if you make your own for half the price (or less). A few samples of menus:

Having said that, the tandoori dishes at the "Mary" restaurants were very good.
A sfor authentic, well it's all been developed for a western palate, be it Aussie/Kiwi/UK?USA. We all like it different. I prefer UK, coz that is what I was reared on.

This place in Melbourne does one of the best curries around and a take away main is about $16. They've been around for well over 20 years and the repeat business speaks for itself. It blows away anything I've had in the UK (and I've had a lot in the UK!).

I tried 9 Marys and Chutney Mary's and didn't enjoy them. Maybe it's a regional thing. We're from Manchester and find that the curry at Anghiti in Padbury or Innaloo are closest you will get to back home.
