Anyone in Manly(Sydney)or nearby suburbs?
Hiya!
I've just moved to Manly and was wondering if anyone wanted to meet up for drinks/coffee/lunch? It would be great to meet friends in the area

Hi Caroline ,I'm 31 and have just moved back to Manly with my partner after spending three years back in the UK. (I had training to complete, but after three years at home we were dying to get back out here for the sun and the beaches.) We've been back here about 6 weeks now, but my partner Rob is currently out of the country waiting for his visa to be processed. How about you- where are you living now? Since coming back (and moving from Cornwall this time) I have noticed that Manly is pretty busy. Is that what made you move further up the Northern Beaches?
-Dom we'd certainly love to hang out on the beach, and although I don't surf, I'm sure Rob would take you up on the offer when he gets back!

Hello
This is my first post on the Forum so excuse me if I don't meet your Forum etiquette (I will get the hang of it eventually!)
I'm due to emigrate on the 28th Dec and we're heading to the Northern Beaches. We'll be based in St Ives for the first few weeks while I househunt - ideally French's Forest I think - but we also like the look of Allambie and North Balgowlah.
So to cut a long story short, I'd definitely be keen to meet up for coffee and a chat and find out what life is REALLY like in the NB area!

I am based in St Ives, so you are welcome when you arrive, Drama Queen to meet up for a coffee and chat. Pm me once you have got the hang of the forum for phone no. so that you have someone to call when you get here.
Yes Kerry, Manly was really busy, and that was in winter- it is fairly horrendous in summer! We moved because DD's school is in Gordon, and the 45 min commute each way (on a good day) was just too much, as she was getting home after swimming training at 7.45 and then having to have tea, dry hair and do homework before bed- she is 13 so it was too late really. She trains in the early mornings now, but it is only 12 mins to the school pool from here, or 20 to the pool at Maquarie Uni. St Ives is great for OH to commute into the cbd as it is 12 miins to the station. We are also 5 mins from bushwalks, and 20 from the beach.

That's really kind of you Caroline. I appreciate that. I'll definitely be in touch - I hope there's a reallly good coffee/cake place near St Ives?!

Max Brenner does really good chocolate and coffee, and next door is a patisserie which is also good, but the cafe lifestyle is easily found here. you will be spoilt for choicem but beware the "Sydney stone" which is the average amount of weight people put on!

Can you try it again? I've got nothing in my inbox. I am not Kernow- St Ives is a Sydney suburb! I am a west country girl tho= Wiltshire lass, (and my last boss and friend was Cornish.)

Hi Drama Queen, I'm Lisa, living in St Ives since 1st December and doing a bit of househunting whilst we look for a long term rental. We've seen everything from the immaculate showhome to the dead cockroach hotel, but the experience is fun. I've already met up with Caroline Phillips so we will have to do a welcome lunch in Pattisons (next to Max Brenner chocolate shop) in St Ives when you get here. I can well believe what Caroline says about the Sydney stone - and I'm beginning to suspect the coackroaches die of obesity or heart disease. Hope your exit from the UK goes well and we look forward to seeing you when you get here.

Re: Anyone in Manly(Sydney)or nearby suburbs?
Hi Lisa! Thanks for replying - it would be great to meet up with you and Caroline once I finally get over there. 9 days and counting before we head to Heathrow. We think our flights have been changed from BA to Emirates but we're still waiting for confirmation - it's all been a bit stressful in the past few days as you can imagine.
The Sydney Stone eh? Nope! I'm not going to let that happen! I'm actually convinced I'll LOSE a stone - I can't imagine wanting to eat in 40 degree heat (because the chocolate will melt right?!) and having access to a pool for the first three weeks might tempt me to use it. I'm a bit of a gym bunny any and finding a good local gym is on my To Do list ... after buy a car, find a house ... yadda yadda
Looking forward to hooking up with you both. I'll PM you both once I've arrived - we'll have internet access where we're staying so hopefully I'll be able to contact you and Caroline sooner rather than later.

We rented in St. Ives for 18 months when we arrived, we're now in Turramurra which is only a few minutes away. Happy to meet for coffee.
