Smile Anyone living in Coolum, Sunshine Coast?

Hi guys

We are on the move again...we are considering renting at Coolum.

We are just a bit worried that it is a bit quiet. We know it has a gym and a surf club. What more can you want! Are there any shops there? Or whats the nearest big supermarket?

Does anyone live there or has lived there? We are currently living in Mooloolaba, great but our lease is up and we are looking to rent a house rather than a unit. We have lived in Minyama, Caloundra before.

We aint spring cooks - so not looking for night-life, just to chill! Just a nice Sunday 'special' 'catch of the day' at the club and near to da beach!

All help much appreciated.

Thanks

J n P xx

Have no idea what its like but we are hoping it is nice. We are renting a holiday house there from 17th Aug. When we emigrate over. Idealy we would like to buy somewhere on the Sunshine coast but want get to know the areas first. Like you we dont want night life but somewhere funky and chilled out would be nice.

Hi there,
Hope you don't mind me joining in but we are coming over next week for our reccie. My ears pricked up as Coloundra was mentioned earlier. We will be looking around this area and just wondered what it is like. We are looking for an area suitable for young families. We also heard that Noosa is a nice place too. Hope someone can please help!

Hi guys

All of the Sunshine Coast is great!

My Fav is Caloundra, but there is only tourist property within walking distance to the beach. Units / Flats etc. Bulcock beach we love the most. Great to rent there. (Lots of kite-surfing to watch.

Noosa is too expensive (very). Buy or rent. In our opinion.

Mooloolaba is great too, we are living on the canal at the moment, great views. But no privacy.

I really think it is different concept whether u wana rent or buy as ur priorities all change (and what u can afford).

We have not got kids but from our experince everywhere is family friendly.

We are just checking out Coolum as we can rent a house and live wihin walking distance to da beach. (and the surf club!)

Where we are now we can get a roast dinner for two and a free courtesy bus there and back for £2.50! Can't go wrong, thats at the Alex Surf Club. Marvellous!

It is all great

Best move we ever made.

I reckon Coolum is one of the nicest places on the sunshine coast, some nice restaraunts, a beautiful beach and a few shops (including an IGA supermarket). Property to buy is pretty expensive, but where isn't close to the beach.

We spoke about moving there and may do in a few years time

I would agree that Coolum is lovely - there are some good restuarants and nice coffee shops and of course the beach....... There is a good range of shops in Coolum itself and, as well as the IGA, there is a Woolworths at Coolum Park (just near the Sunshine Motorway roundabout).

As the previous poster said, property isn't cheap and the general view is that property prices will go up as Coolum goes more up-market. On that point, there are plans for about a lot of shops on the Esplanade (all the properties from the chemist down to Beach Road) to be knocked down and redeveloped in 2008 (from Feb to Nov). Not only will it be a bit disruptive, but it will also remove a few really popular eateries so not sure that Coolum will be the place to be in 2008. That said, it won't affect the beach.

What about if you wanted a bit of land, bush block etc and did not want to be too close to the beach (40 mins away etc)-any ideas ??

Some nice land over near Yandina, also some nice Queenslander houses. I went down one of the dirt roads the other day and I really fancied living there. Away from the tourists and noisy roads.

We're in Perth but have spent some time in Coolum. Have good friends living there that think it's perfect, and we agree. The place has a great feel and is growing. A bit of a challenge on the work front (long drive to Bris in peak hour traffic) but that's only the case if you have to work!

Would move there tomorrow if life were that simple (retirement option...). Excellent beachfront, easy access to Noosa, local airport, shops ok (I recall a Woolies). Yes, property is expensive for being so far from the action but compared to Noosa it's good value. Believe rentals are hard to find btw, and getting pricey.
