It took absolute ages to roll out 4G beyond London - not sure what caused such a delay. Speed-wise if you are with EE you will be fine though. I've even stopped looking at other providers when in the UK as it wasn't worth the hassle.

Singapore. on the other hand, is very average when it comes to mobile data, but at least they have fibre-to-the-home internet rolled out to practically everyone. So once they sort out the international connectivity bottleneck they will be set for decades.

UK shames rivals with fastest 3G and 4G speeds in the world- The Inquirer (nice fat report there to read)

You might have hit congested UK areas, and uncongested Aus ones - and the situation may/will change over time - but it's evidentially wrong to be saying Aus is doing markedly better than the UK now.
So when was the last time you tested it for yourself in the UK? These Google searches are throwing you duds.

If anyone is on the Telstra prepaid Freedom plan with the 'free all-day-long calls to Telstra' option selected, I strongly recommend upgrading to the new Freedom Plus plan that just came out - especially if you're topping up $40 or $50 every month.

Those on the old plan will continue to receive a lot less data, whereas those switching over will get roughly the same on the $30 topup (1.3GB), but much more on the $40 (3GB) and $50 (4GB) plans. Data (and call credit) will also roll over to the next month, something which was previously not the case.
