Ask anyone who flew with BA (what used to be the worlds favourite & mine) in 2005 with no catering during the Gate Gourmet strikes or during the opening of T5 when they arrived at their destination and their baggage didn't or during the recent spell of strikes when flights were cancelled / delayed etc

My view - get on a plane with a resonable safety record - which is most many people consider. Also consider where to stage from, to and where to change.
I have never worked out why people obsess over something which is never more than 24 hours.
I know migration is exciting but some people see their flight as some sort of party piece(!)

I think most people migrating, just want to get here....and price plays a huge factor.

Agreed - but some seem to see it as a 'who does the best lunch' and has the biggest videos..

I'm about to fly Lon - Bris on RB in September, I have an 10 hour stopover there and back in Brunei..really looking forward to that part

I had a mate who did a long stop over there. He had one thing to say about it.
The Radisson Hotel is 1.5 miles away and worth every cent of the $100 a night.

I really have a huge phobia of flying, so I can almost 'forget' abit when I watch a film...and the kids would be bored out of their heads with no films or games to play...they are 15,13 and 10....decisions, decisions. I would be gutted if I had to stay over due to last minute schedule rechanges as I have already booked our hotel in Sydney for a day and night to explore before coming back up to the tropics...plus we will have work to come back to and the kids school. Its good that RB sorted it out, but for me, it would be a nightmare..especially with 3 animals in kennels waiting on being collected...
Thanks all for your input, really appreciate it.

we have flown to uk 4 times with RB ,Have done great tours en route did a 3 hour tour first time and a 5 hour tour second time,Tours in transit are very cheap and interesting and gets you out of the airport. Liked brunei so much we went there for a week and stayed at the fantastic 6 star Empire Hotel and Country club.It was out of this world !
I am terrified of flying, well its not the fear of flying...its the fear of crashing that scares me.flying is a means to an end for me.

I think I would rather have as small amount of time as possible when waiting for the connecting flight, am way too nervous to enjoy any trips....and I think 3 jet lagged kids would prove too painful
I am of the same thinking as you...its the crashing I am most scared of

I have just booked my Husband a return trip to the U.K with Royal Brunei....It was very short notice (thank-you for the nice tax return ATO
) and he will get to see his Mum on her 85th Birthday as well as get a well deserved rest. They were far cheaper by at least $500 ($1,600 return/economy). He gets a 12 hour stop-over on the way, but that comes with a 'free' hotel room. How do I get him on these tours and what one do you guys recommend??
In the meantime please pass me the valium as I have 3 weeks on my own with the kids

He reckons I chose this 'dry' airline on purpose as revenge

He can take his own alcohol on board if he wants and they'll supply any mixers. If he can do a boat trip, I do it. Takes you to see the water village and (hopefully) the monkeys in the jungle. Me and the girls just got a cab from the hotel, dropped off by the river, had a wander and then grabbed one of the many water taxi/tour boats. It was easy and we felt really safe.
