My personal experience of it today... I checked the radar, and it showed the rain would end in about 15 minutes, my other half said it looked like it would rain all day, and I had to go out and buy a cover for something, to keep it dry during the day.
Well, not being one to argue, I went and bought it, rain had stopped by the time I got home, and hasn't started again.. needless to say the cover wasn't needed !
I just love the BOM radar, just wish the other half would believe it !
