We got our visas in Jan and are now trying to sell the house. We have done it completely the wrong way round and got the tickets booked already for Oct 21st so I guess that's when we go.

When is everyone else heading over and have there been any meets in the Derbyshire area?
Yep, why would you want to go anywhere else? Hope to be out early in 2006.

Hi s/nurse

Also moving to Adelaide, to work at Flinders University. Aiming at moving in October. Is the Hospital near the Uni?

There seem to be quite a few of us then! Good luck with the visa applications for those just starting the process - it's really frustrating but quite a high when you get it (even tho it throws you into a complete state of panic about the house that you have only half renovated and are now having to sell!)!

I think nik laws and s/nurse are both really brave heading downunder for a new life without going before. We did the backpacker thing about 10 years ago and stayed 1 night in Adelaide and got hit by a typhoon whilst staying in our tent. Not sure if that was a sign or not but hey what the hell! We had originally thought about going to Perth but then halfway through our application they upped the points and our only route was the 3 year state visa. The more I look into Adelaide though the more I think it will be fantastic. I am in contact with someone who moved out there last year and is really settled so that gives me hope.

If anyone fancies a meet then we're up for it (though not until we've finished painting!) and are quite happy to travel (within reason - Northern Scotland might be a little far with a 2 year old) so if anyone else wants to give us a shout.

Anyway I've waffled enough , I can see your eyes glazing over! So time to say good night.

Anyone with any sort of trade seems to be in really high demand everywhere. Being nosy what made you guys decide on Adelaide and Australia?

Hi all,

We are off to Adelaide and fly on 8th August, I am in the British Army until 31 July and then I am joining the Australian Army. My wife is a massage therapist and we have 2 kids who will be starting school in Sept somewhere?! at the moment we will have to go into serviced apartments in the south of the city until our container arrives and we find somewhere more permenant to live, probably Hallett Cove/Marino/Flagstaff Hill/Seacliffe or surrounding areas.

Smile Re: Anyone else Adelaide bound?

We are going on July 26th via singapore. Were going to use meet'n'greet but on enquiry found that nothing was available for that week so using aussieassist who has arranged a car for us for 2 weeks serviced accomodation for a month so we can decide what area suits us best - so far looking at Hallet Cove/Henley Beach/Norwood/Belair.A friend of ours actually flies out on this Saturday. Since we told people what we were planning to do I am amazed at the number of people I have met from Dorset alone who are planning to go between now and next Feb.
We are in rented at the moment - actually we sold the house alot quicker than we thought so it was a bit of a panic to find a rental for only 4 months until someone else who is going to Adelaided suggested going around the estate agents asking if anyone had a house to sell which was empty because they had to move for whatever reason eg bridging loans etc -so we cover the mortgage for them until July while they still try to sell it.No one has been around though.

It was the only place that would have us! We were headed to Perth but they put the points up as we were applying but then they introduced the state sponsored visa so we went for that. The more we look into it tho the more it seems like a really great place. We were in Oz on backpacker visa's 10 years ago and decided then that we would love to give living there a go so we are. Visa was granted in January but it's taken this long to get our house anywhere vaguely ready for selling so it went on the market yesterday. Now we wait.....

Hope your visa'a arrive soon (if my memory serves me ok you haven't got them yet have you? apologies if I've got it wrong.)

Well if we dont make it to Adelaide this time, we're b*ggered. We've tried so hard but fingers crossed with the SIR visa changes we will make it to Hallet Cove in early 2006 with our 2 children!

Hello there

We shall be emigrating to Adelaide as soon as the house sells......

Two buyers pulled out thus far - one the day AFTER Crown had packed up the entire house.

Fingers crossed it sells asap and we can rebook everything for later this year.

No idea what to do about s/term accommodation when we arrive - On Arrival Accommodation seems a bit hit and miss.

We should have been flying out on 5 July - instead and I will now be stuck at work in the UK. Ho hum.

Still - the only things in life worth having are those you work for

All those going to Australia imminently - good luck - you sods!
