Another teaching question - Sydney
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post in this forum and will really appreciate all the help I can get.
We are thinking of immigrating to Australia (Sydney) by next year. The main applicant will be my husband but I am also looking to change my career and do PGCE Secondary in computer science, If I go down this route will by PGCE be good enough to get me a job in Sydney (BSc Hons and 1 year PGCE)? Also, I wont have any teaching job experience, how big a problem will this be? Will I need to undertake any further training in Aus before getting a job? On the SOL list Secondary teachers still seem to be in demand whereas by the forums I gather that there is an oversupply of Primary school teachers, is that correct?
All help is much appreciated

To your question, four years at university and some placement days (I don't know how many) should be enough for registration. Then you would be in same boat as any other newly qualified looking for the first job.

I'd be avoiding teaching like the plague TBH, Australia (in those places that people actually want to live and teach) is well overpopulated with out of work teachers. If you have a background in IT you would be better served putting that to work for you. If you could manage pure Maths and Physics or Chemistry then you would be in with a slightly better shot but NSW is not an easy state to get a "plum" position.
