Believe me, it will wind you up when yet again on a Sunday night your clothes for work are mid-cycle in the (cr*p) toploader, your video had just cut out on one of the 2 programmes you like to watch each week, your pc has swallowed (again) the email you are writing to your sister in the UK, and your mobile phone has stopped charging.
It may be something and nothing when it happens once in a while, for a good reason, but tonight - yet again - is just another example of a lousy and inefficient power supply company.
Having just left the Uk has nowt to do with it - I'd be juast as livid if it had happened to me over there week after week. Being in Australia doesn't suddenly make you immune to the annoyances of modern life you know.

Right, I'm now off to retrieve my shoe from next door, having thrown it through the fence in frustration :D

And when you ring Energex they say "could be a few days" and you ring RACQ for the contents insurance and they say "if its fried mate, tough, take it up with Energex"

The spookiet thing tonight was that it wasn't a total outage, it was a sort of "third-of-normal" supply - all the light bulbs were glowing red, and the TV, video, pc were all flashing on/off/on and rebooting rapidly over and over again. That is more freaky than a total blackout

And incidentally - for those who don't know - he ain't a Whinging Pom (though he is married to one :p ) The Bloke is a Queenslander, has lived here 40 years, and says he always assumed that the UK power supply was as unreliable as here...........until I enlightened him

OOh Er

sounds like a good one.

I still think being self sufficient might be an answer, especially when you live in a country suited to solar power.
You cpuld have the last laugh oin them all ;)

When everyopnes elses lights are out, turn up the music and put all the lights on. :D

If there was a storm/industial action then you do have a reason for losing power. Even Energex says they have antiqued systems for the massive increase in population and usage.
Had PC surge-protection and it still took over an hour to bring PC back online properly.

Lol...we have the same overhead cables and lousy outdated Electricity infrastructure as everywhere else in Qld. I'm unaware Energex have singled the area where I live for a better service. Do they do that for non-winging Poms :D

And I didn't miss your point. Most people who live in Aus [including the Aussies I know] accept power outages as the norm, however much a nuisance they are. They could be worse...try living in Spain!!

As Blossom said, there is a proportionatley lower population per land capita in Aus than in UK hence less money spent on infrastructure improvements hence we live with this as part and parcel of the Aus system. Of course it's not good that Energex have failed to deliver a plan promised yonks ago....but hey....that's politics for ya

And I agree with you that it's a pain in the butt ....however the person to speak to is your local councillor and/or Energex if you think it's happening in your area more than anywhere else. I think Energex / the council are aware of their failings in terms of not meeting current / future requirements .....but you might want to remind them in case they've missed your point too ;)

Tell them you know me :D You never know. They might also isolate your supply and stop power outages happening like they supposedly do where I live :D ;)

One thing that amazes me is - WHY do Aussies/Qlders just accept this lousy power supply. I remember the 1974 UK power cuts, no coal = no electric, etc, and it brought down the govt in the end cos the people wanted a reliable power supply (yes, I know the whole thing was more complicated, but that was a big complaint- WHY have we no electric).
So why haven't the Qlders shouted about it? The woman next door, at 9 oclock tonight, said, "oh well, theres no power, I'll go to bed then and eat tomorrow" - perhaps its just me, but I don't understand why people don't complain!

Thanks for the constructive input, this was meant to be a discussion about Qld's notably dubious power supply. I don't see the need for gutter language.

Oh, and for your info - The Bloke IS at home, he is a Queenslander. And I am also at home now, as I am married to him. :)

Aussies don't accept it. They complain like hell to those in power. Apart from that there's very little else they can do.

I believe there is a campaign to give customers money back if the outages are unnaceptable [guidlines set out somewhere]. Having said that, the guidlines re what is/is not acceptable seem pretty tepid...but at least it's a start as I think the governemnt realise they have to start somewhere and it's the "softly, softly" approach for now to encourage Energex to get their act together. The government can hardly bring out the big stick as it seems they are also to blame for this mess, so "weak" punishment [initially] is probably more condusive to gaining improvements / results.

So...people do complain, it's just that the wheels of power [pardon the pun]are not quite as fast as we'd like em to be

Next time you feel the need to vent your feelings cause you had a bad day on this Forum, remind us all to call you a "Complete and Utter F**king T**t" back.

Do you know The Bloke personally to be able to be this frank? Thought not!

My Mother always says if you have nothing constructive to say, don't bother saying anything at all.

Shame you have to sink down to this.

M
