Have to say its been the really good for me, tried everything else and i mean everything ( injection was particually bad) So certainly worth any short lived discomfort.

I had my first 2 fitted prior to having my 2 bundles of joy and they fitted them while I was under sedation, no such problems after !!!

This was my second one. The first was put in after a D&C (whilst under anaesthetic) so this was a bit of a shock to say the least!!! Still feel a bit crap now - crampy and headachy
I don't know if you can have one if you haven't had children - I had mine because of heavy periods. Loads better though.
The link above does mention about the Mirena so hope I can get it done in Oz. Would like to have general anaesthetic though as I am a right wimp!!!!
Need lots of sympathy now after going through that today!!!!!

The "minipill" is progesterone only, so same methods of action and same side effects as the depo.

Think I've just worked out how to mulit quote. I have a merena fitted, due again in 3 years, for endometriosis this is my third one and bar the fitting and discomfort, no periods !! Had the first 2 before having kids! would'nt want to have to change now, some research needed i think.
So, you can find yourself another (additional) contraception method if you want, once three years are up....if you cant bear the thought of having the current one removed and a new one placed.

not sure about iud costs as i got mine done (and since removed - ouch!!!) privately (cost me about $150 from memory), but i think the pill costs you around $25 each month to fill the prescription. i'm just about to find out for sure as i'm going to the docs to get it on friday, so i'll come back and confirm!
you will likely find you have quite a few out of pocket medical expenses over here in general; it's just the way their system works.

if you have to have sedation for insertion of iud, you will certainly have to pay for the anasthetic and anasethetist (spelt wrongly!). you don't get any of that kind of stuff free here.
