Hello All,
I am going through the visa process at the moment and I have been reading about the problems plumbers have registering in Aus.
Does anybody know if US qualifications are recognised in Aus, I understand that UK ones are not but Scottish ones are.
I hope that someone has the answer.

Though it also leaves me wondering why the relevant English officiating body doesn't take steps to join the world federation of plumbers. You'd think it would make perfect sense.

It's to do with The Scottish and Northern Ireland Joint Industry Board for the Plumbing Industry.
Different body.
Here's my post about it on the same thread...

But you have highlighted the primary difference between us, Wol: I actually provide solid evidence to support my arguments. You just chuck out a ridiculous generalisation (ie. "Australian companies are inefficient and highly resistant to change"), tack on an anecdote ("I heard such-and-such about company so-and-so from some anonymous bloke"), and think you've made an iron-clad case.

The fact that (a) a single anecdote proves nothing about Australian companies as a whole, and (b) the same tactic could be used to "prove" that British, American, Canadian and European companies are equally inefficient and highly resistent to change, appears to have escaped your attention.

So to assist the poor OP, which worldwide governing body / treaty / secret handshake do the Scots belong to, so he can check and see if the Yanks are in?
(we probably aren't since we don't think the rest of the world exists, but....

Actually I don't.
I certainly won't identify the "anonymous bloke" but he took a call from John Howard's secretary while we were talking yesterday and is not dealing with mere $millions.
Of course every country has poor practices, bad workmanship, ludicrous rules and regulations. It is just that I and many others, having experienced several different countries, have come to the conclusion that Australia is quite a long way behind the rest of the world, while at the same time being convinced that it is right up there in front.
You obviously differ: that's fine.
Getting back to the thread title, how about this bit of "plumbing" (my italics) which feeds my upstairs shower. Note the way the lack of insulation helps to heat the loft!
Any UK plumbers coming out - just make sure you can come up to these standards!

Dont worry about it! OH is coming over to sort it all out! Plumber extraordinary! (Advanced Craft Plumber of the Year in the UK when took extra quals).
Plumbers in the UK can now join JIB for their skills - lots of pretty coloured ones for different stages of qualifications - general plumber, advanced craft plumber, apprentice plumber, gas qualifications also. This card assisted with the TRA no end!!

I know not relevant to the US plumber but depending on where he is settling will need to contact relevant licencing board.
Good luck!
