Advice needed about living in Perth
Hello,
Me and my Wife and 3 small children are going to perth in december with a view on making a more permanent move soon after and we are asking for any tips on places to visit and places to steer clear of. We would also be looking to maybe talk to a family who have already made the permanent move and to help us with some infomation and advice.

Hi, and welcome to BE.
Have been to Perth twice in the last year and am hoping to be over there permanently in the next couple of months.
Perth zoo is well worth a visit. It's a short ( about 5 mins ) ferry-ride from near the Swan bell tower, which is a 2-minute walk from the city centre.
Off at the other side and perhaps a 10-minute walk to the zoo.
Aqwa sea centre at Hillarys is also great. It's on the coast in a northern suburb ( which has some nice touristy shops, great ice-cream, nice places to eat ( ideal for kids ), a nice family pub, and a great sheltered beach.
Yanchep national park is further north of Perth ( at a guess, about a 30/40-minute drive from the centre ). Very nice to stroll around the park, see the koalas, nice visitor centre, nice cafe.
Freemantle is just south of Perth and is nice to walk around. NIce harbour, markets, cafes, motor museum, etc.
Rottnest island is FANTASTIC. It is about a 30/40-minute boat trip from Perth or Hillarys and is a real paradise island. Most people hire bikes as there are some fab beaches a very short ride away. In fact, there is a fab beach ( with pelicans !! ) about a 2 minute walk from the harbour. The kids will love seeing the little quokkas and the pelicans.
There's lots more - how long are you going for and how old are your children ?

I forgot about Kings Park, which is just outside the city centre. That's nice to walk around. It has a treetops walk, big jet-type fountains, and a nice cafe with great views over Perth.
The city centre is really nice, too. Clean and spacious and nice to just stroll around.
Have you booked your accomodation ? Hotel ? Rented house ? As you're going in December it'll be summer, so you may want to stay in a place that has a pool. If not, perhaps get a place that's close to the beach.
When we went last year we had three kids from 4 - 8 and they just loved it all. Surprisingly, they never got bored. Well, apart from the time we stopped off to look at some millionaire-type houses for sale. But even then they enjoyed getting in the bath and hiding in the walk-in wardrobes !
There's plenty of info on the internet about what to do in Perth and it's just a lovely place to be in.

There are loads of fabulous beaches in Perth. The kids ( and you ) will love 'em.

Try not to worry too much about the kids they are generally happy if Mum and Dad are happy.
