Default Advice on flights please..

Hi

we have been looking at flights from manchester to brisbane for 2 adults and our little boy who is 5. We are unsure whether to go with someone like emirates who has 2 stopovers meaning we would be flying for 7 hours on average for each leg of the journey or to go with someone who has only one stop which would mean flying for about 13 hrs and 7/8 hours.

Me and my husband are not too bothered about which flight but I was thinking whether the 2 stops would be better for my son as it would break up the journey as he has only ever flew once before and that was only to Spain.

Has anyone any advice about what they have done with their kids?

Also can anyone recommend an airline they prefer.

Nic

Been to Oz three times with my little one who is now nearly 4. First time we had one stop to re-fuel for four hours. Was a nightmare wiht a kiddie, but he was only 1 and he was tired!! Arrrrrr. Were on the go for 28 hours solid. No sleep...I nearly killed the other half!! The other times we have always just had a stop for two nights, once in San Fran (United Airlines) for two days and the other Singapore...great places for kids. I would recommend just the one stop because he'll most probably sleep for most of it anyway....well hopefully!British Airways/Quantas were total shite....were throwing coffee at me when the little one was asleep in my arms and then had the cheek, when I asked them to warm up some milk, to ask why is he still having warm milk????!!! United Airlines were much the same....Best ever airline I have done long haul with were Japan Airlines and Singapore Airlines. Apparently Malaysian are v.v.good too! Just my experiences, others may have been luckier with BA/Quantas! Good luck

on my experience I would go as direct as possible unless u are planning on having 1 or 2 nights stopover ... we went with singapore airlines last year to Perth ( I know Brisbane is a few more hours) Manchester direct to SIngapore then direct to Perth .. our son was 4 and he was fine .. got a bit ratty abt 1 hour from Perth .. he is a live wire on a day to day bases so I thought he would be bad ..
I work in travel and spent 5 yrs selling Aus / Nz and far east .. 99 % of people would rather just get there ... Singapore airlines are one of teh best I have ever been on .. they had seat back videos and nintendo games for ur 5 yr old .. they bring drinks round very offen and also brought kit kats and rolls around in between meals ...
Went r u off and where abts do u intend on living ..
good luck

Thanks for the advice.

We are looking at going at the beginning of October as our house sale should have gone thru by then. We are not too sure were we are going to be living when we get there. My husbands company are going to be putting us up in serviced apts for a few weeks whilst we look around.

We did it with our two (2 1/2 and 4 at the time) Direct flight Edinburgh to Sydney. We left Edinburgh at about 7pm. From Heathrow we left at around 10pm and kids slept for a fair bit after that. Only in Singapore for a couple of hours then on to Sydney ariving at around 5am. Kids were really good on the flights, sleeping on and off.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Do just the refuel in Singapore with Qantas/Singapore etc rather than the extra stop in Dubai with Emirates. I've done both lots of times and Emirates, although OK are not that good and the extra stop is just another place they can loose your luggage...the've managed to do mine twice to Brisbane.
