Adelaide it a large town.. not a city.

Its a tough choice, we picked Adelaide..Perth, albeit a lot nicer.. was too far away from anywhere else..for our frequent weekends away & skiing.

Adelaides too quiet for us, and the house prices in some places are not worth it..compared to other states.. but you can get cheap but you will be living miles away from the city, or in a dodgy bit.

Good luck, they really are two different places, Perth, pricey but very nice.. Adelaide, cheaper but not as nice

Don't forget the mean income in WA is about $55,000 - about 22 thousand quid if we're doing comparisons

Adelaide or Perth - my opinion, neither, they both seem places poms move on from. Geography and distance may be one reason, which means you tire of whats to do after some months. Not everyone but quite common.

Have been to both places nothing looked visually wrong with either (certain areas excluded of course) more a creeping feeling of what would I do there after 6 months. All of our kids had 'get me out of here" opinions on both places too.

Defnitely cheaper than the south east of England, what about if compared to living within 10KM of any major UK city?

I bet the mean household income is more like $80K nowdays, most homes with one income are probably only single income because they can afford to be and probably have a relatively high income, and I bet more often than not there's two incomes coming into most households giving a combined in excess of around the $80K mark.
A lot of household incomes would be in excess of $120K.

I dont trust the $55K figure it was only around 12 months ago the average was supposedly something like $40K so its jumped $15K in that time thats nearly 40% increase, I dont know anyone at any level of the market thats got a 40% pay increase in the last year.
I wonder if its something to do with the tax rates changing and people with company setups that they work through (which there are a hell of lot in WA) are able to push through more as salaries now, (but still carry on taking the same again through expenses etc. which probably doesnt count against the state average...)

A friend of ours out here has just sold his house, a modern but nice detached 3x1 near Middlesborough for just over GBP180k. So that's AUD450k. He will be able to get something out here for that.
In reality, I reckon average incomes are about the same UK/Oz.

Adelaide is boring with not much going on at all. House prices are creeping up here slowly too. Most people only come to Adelaide because they have to (state sponsorship) there are quite a few people that have moved to Perth or Queensland. We never even considered Adelaide until the points went up in 2004 and wanted to go to Brissy. I suppose we have to thank SA for the only opportunity we had at the time.
If you have a 136 you can go anywhere, so why stop at Perth or Adelaide.
There are far more job opportunities in states other than Adelaide, so if you can go elsewhere then I would.
Adelaide is ok if you are over 50 and are ready for retirement.

There is nothing wrong with Adelaide. It may not be everyones cup of tea but for me it presses all the right buttons. I don't find it dull or boring, I'm nowhere near 50 and certainly not ready for retirement either.

Each to their own Wendy,we all want different things. I don't want a buzzing place to live but it would be nice to go somewhere exciting sometimes. I'm afraid if Glenelg is their best resort, then sorry it doesn't do it for me.
The most exciting place they have got is the very over priced Beach House and a delapidated "Greenhills adventure park"
There are only so many times you can visit Hahndorf, gorge wildlife park and Victor Harbor.

Sure he'll be able to get something, but it won't be very nice. Probably nicer than Middlesbro though. Do a search on the realestate site, it's places like Mirabooka and Wanneroo.
