Hi all
just starting to make our plans 4 moving and in the info our agent sent there is info on housing available 4 migrants for 12 weeks at a cost of about $120 - $260 a week. Just wondering whether anyone out there has any experience of this housing as price is much better than any serviced accommodation we have seen.
Thanks

Sorry, have no info about this - but do they have a website or anything? We're hoping to get there one day too!

I haven't stayed in it myself, but here is the link http://www.immigration.sa.gov.au/sit..._onarrival.php

Pretty basic - but considering the money it was well worth it - and we stayed the full 12 weeks.
It's in very limited supply - and it's the luck of the draw whether you get it or not. Try not to be too specific in terms of location to increase your chances of getting it.

The migrant housing is a lottery system. If you happen to be the ones chosen then you get a place. If not, then you don't. You will find out 2 weeks prior to arrival whether or not you have been successful.
We were very lucky in that we had a 3 bedroom house in the northern suburbs, close to schools, the O-Bahn and shopping. Like Marco said, very basic but clean and really handy when all your stuff is in transit.

Thanks for all that, we are going to Sydney prior to Adelaide for 4 weeks, and won't have an email address, do you know how they contact you 2 weeks prior
Thanks

They email you. Like Wendy said, set up a hotmail or Yahoo account for this sort of thing. You will have to give them your flight details 6 weeks prior and they will let you know if there is anything available. You should have a backup plan in effect just in case you are not lucky. Adelaide shores caravan park seems to be pretty popular. Also, if you are looking for a long term rental, check out my classified ad. I'm moving to Perth as soon as I finish my contract at work.

Thanks Dorothy, I think the hubby has already set up a hotmail address so we should be alright. We just need somewhere to stay to start with until we either buy or find a long term rent but don't want to pay stupid prices for serviced accommodation. Do you recommend the caravan park even with a 6 and 2 year old. Do the caravans have all the basics except bedding

I stayed at Adelaide Shores Caravan Park. The cabins have TV's, fridge, cooker, pans, plates, utensils etc. Bedding is included, we had sheets, pillows and big woolly throws. All you really need to supply is towels, toiletries and food.
There's a pool, a games room with internet access ($1 for 10 minutes, I think), a giant pillow for the kids to jump on, a few play area's with climbing frames etc, outside BBQ's and a shop.
It's right on the beach front, and like Dorothy said it can get pretty cold in the winter. We arrived in July and it was freezing, but we just kept the reverse air con on all the time (glad we didn't have to pay for electric
)
There's a golf course over the road and a bus stop right outside that goes into the city.
We had a 4 bed cabin, but there are bigger ones if you want them. If the OAA isn't available then it's fine for a few weeks until you get sorted and kind of like being on holiday.

Thanks for all the info, The caravan park does sound good as an alternative. I'll put it down on my list as a standby for if we don't get the migrant housing. We can arrange that from Sydney when we get there .
Thanks again everyone
