Thanks for that - definately a hotel, closer to darling harbour the better as wifes family live in Balmain and Glebe. We want to be withing walking distance to everything. From the looks of the web searches we'll have to rent 2 rooms - anything up to $500 per night. Definately no camping or hostels due to previous bad experiences!

What about a holiday apartment? Cheaper than 2 hotel rooms and you then have the benefit of a living area and a small kitchen so you don't have to go out for EVERY meal.
We (family of 5) stayed at the Pacific International Apartments on George St. when we came over for our reccie in Nov 06. They have since been rebranded as "Break Free on George". They're just on the edge of Chinatown, very close to Darling Harbour and really convenient for everything. Ask for a high floor apt though as the lower ones have views of the aircon system on the top of Paddy's Market! There are lots of holiday apts. in Darling Harbour itself (like the Medina) but I haven't tried them.

At the top-end of your budget but worth it if only for the view IMHO!

Tell me about it!!!! When we came over on a reccie I spent weeks online trying to sort accommodation - everything is geared up for the neat 2+2. We have now moved into the even more difficult situation where our eldest (14) is counted as an adult for pretty much everything but I kept forgetting because as far as I'm concerned I have "three kids".
