ACCA in Australia?
I read on a few forum discussions that having an ACCA only puts me in a disadvantage as ACCA is not so recognised in Australia. This is kinda of getting me worried as I was planning to go to Sydney in about 6 months from London.
I have now 2 years post qualification in ACCA + 3 years in Big4 NZ and currently 2.5 years in investment bank, London.
Would it be hard to get a job in Sydney in Banking?
Thanks
zaloo

Three years big 4 and 2.5 years in an investment bank in London will stand you in very good stead. Subject to your own interviewing skills of course, you shouldn't have an issue.

i found in many occasions that experience is more important than qualifications.

That's sounds good then I was losing sleep over it and was wondering how to get my CPA or CA and having to go back to taking exams after 3 years!
Is getting contract work in australia easier than a perm job?

It is just the same as at home, some companies want perms and some want contractors.
I am presuming you have a permanent visa with my previous comments. If you are on a WHV then things become harder, but not impossible.

Getting CPA is apparently not such a problem, just do the exams (five papers or so) and they recognise your work experience. Have you got a degree? You might need one to become a CPA.
Becoming a CA involves more hoops but if you find a CA to monitor your Australian work experience and are willing to attend the courses, it can be worthwhile.
Long term it would probably be better to have an Australian qualification and CA would be preferable to CPA.

Yes I hold an accounting degree and acca as my professional qualification. I might just convert eventually but just do not want to arrive in Sydney and face problems with getting a job. Plus taking 5 papers means it will take at least 1-2 years if I start now.

I work with many international accountants, always have in the UK too. I do not know a single one that has needed to convert to the local accountancy qualification. UK qualification and experience are well regarded and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
