Hi,

I understand that to install any cabling i would need an ACA licence. Can anyone explain what gaining the licence would entail and at what costs?
I currently install voice and data networks.

you need to get training ..try this link i am lined up to do the cable license course in a few weeks.
Also you will need a blue construction card (in qld where im based)

Still confused how it works. Would i need to do one of these courses ie CAB-08 Structured cabling and then apply for an aca licence using the previous course to state i am capable of the works? Where are Milcom training centres? Are they nationally or are there different companies which do the same kind of courses?

best thing to do is phone them up,they will point you in the right direction... uk quals dont count much over here,and for telecomms work u will need the ozzie quals to become registered,cab-01 for open general license then after that i guess you will then do cab-08 i believe they have training centers around oz and some courses you can do online.
But like i said best to phone them as i could be mistaken..i work as a project eng for a sister company of WIN TV we do all there project work and installs so we are required to have the quals to work broadcast sites.. But our other clients QLD emergency services require all contractors to have open licenses even for cat 5 work..but we didnt have to specialise in the cab-08 course. Depends on what you want to work as i guess.. obviously the better reconised quals with telstra approval the more serious you be taken with prospective clients i find.

hi all,

Yiddo how far did you get in terms of getting your licenses. Im currently looking into getting my aca license but would like to know the pre requisites before i go over to oz. i currently have city and guilds qualifications in data cabling, fibre optics, engineering and other stuff. Will this mean anything over there or can i convert these qualifications into something meaningful if not?

Help would be appriciated. Im looking to go as soon as possible.
