Default 6Nations coverage in Aus?

As we will be in Sydney during the weekend that Ireland take on England for European rugby supremacy(!) I am keen to know whether the games are broadcast live or not at all?

Welcome to Aus! - No they do not - they don't show them at all.

Contrary to popular belief that Aussies love their sport - the "world" sport coverage is bad over here. Aussie TV tends to only show the sport which they are competing in. F1 is another one which they have very bad coverage - a lot of the F1 races are not live, like todays in Malaysia - they will be showing that at 11pm tonight (if it were live it would be on today around 4pm ish) They've even knocked off races to show ruddy golf - this happened last year. The olympic coverage was bad here too, you'd think it would have been good wouldn't you? Again they knocked off things to show water polo instead of a men's final track event - shown later though, but not live. (because there were no aussies in that particular mens race)

Anyway, regarding the 6 nations, In previous years I used to watch some of the matches on Foxtel (bar the English matches , the only games they did not show were the English matches – politics, England used to sell it’s matches outside the UK – foxtell never bought them)

This year, there have been no matches shown (I now have optus which has merged with foxtel– same sport channels)

I listen to the matches via the BBC website – they “show them live there using realplayer “audio . I listened to the Welsh Irish match last night, which was at midnight Brissie time.

Wales 24-25 Ireland - brilliant game, even though we did not win (Wales) , Wales three tries – Ireland two, game was won in injury time – first wales had a drop goal to take the lead, then Ireland produced a drop goal – tight match!

Anyway – you’re out of luck (unless some bright spark in TV land decides to show it - but I doubt it very much) – you’ll have to do what I do – tune to the BBC web site and listen to the game live.
I wouldn’t mind seeing the deciding game myself between Ireland and England, should be a ripper

Why they are not showing the games here I do not know – blindness on the behalf of the TV producers – there is Enough, English, Welsh, Scottish, Irish and Italians to show it here – plus other rugby fans who like to watch a good game

cheers

P.S - Do they show the 6 nations over there in Kiwi land?

Thanks for the info Ceri, depressing tho' it was! The coverage here is excellent and ALL 6N games are covered and reshown at various times. You have to pay a little extra for the "Rugby Channel' but it's worth it. They also show delayed coverage of Heineken Cup matches I appreciate what you are saying about Aussies and sport. I was over there 2 years ago to follow the Lions and the press were obnoxious in the main.
Sad about the Welsh. Would have preferred to go to Lansdowne Road with the pressure off!

Last year is not the issue - it's this years'

As I have said in my above reply , in previous years I have watched the 6 nations over here. This year is different.
Foxtel sports channels used to show them (Bars which have shown the rugby have shown fox sports the same channels I pay for in my home) Fox has not shown the 6 nations this year for some reason.

You would have seen the matches in a bar in previous years, I too have sat in a club (besides my home) and watched matches.
.
If anyone here has been watching the 6 nations in Aus THIS YEAR - I'd like to know where and how, because I can't see any of the matches. This year, for the first time - I've had to revert to using the BBC to listen to any of the matches I want to "see".

cheers
